Louisa ended up in the hospital, while Joe and the others involved in the crash were taken to the police station.
When Elijah saw her, she was lying in her hospital bed, scrolling through her phone. Her bare feet swung lazily at the foot of the bed—she looked completely at ease.
He let out a sigh of relief, then chuckled under his breath.
But as soon as he stepped into the room, his expression tightened, cold and stern—the kind he rarely showed. Louisa sensed the change in the atmosphere without looking up. She said nothing and kept playing on her phone.
He glanced over. She was playing Snake.
That game… Even kids didn't play it anymore.
He tossed his coat onto her bed, sat down in the chair beside it, and crossed his legs. "Where are you hurt?"
"I'm not," Louisa replied. She was fully absorbed in her game and did not look at him once.
