Elijah's words made Thaddeus recall the phone call last night.
"Elijah, let's negotiate. What is it going to take for you to let Louisa go?"
Thaddeus sat in the chair Louisa had just vacated. He could still feel the faint, lingering warmth of her body against the fabric. At this moment, that was enough to bring him immense satisfaction.
Elijah pressed a button beside the chair, and the sunshade slid into place. He remained hidden in the shadows, his glasses still on. "Mr. Cromwell, are you still drunk from last night? Or are you sleepwalking?"
Thaddeus ignored the mockery and proposed his offer. "Elijah, I can let you have Mount Horsher if you want."
Mount Horsher was a prime piece of land in the city's new district. After months of bidding and elimination, only Thaddeus and Elijah had remained.
