Chapter 143 The Auction
By the time Sebastian returned to Gates Manor, night had already fallen. A chill clung to him, and his face was menacingly dark.
Wherever he passed, the servants lowered their heads and even hushed their breaths, afraid to draw attention. "Could it be that he had truly misunderstood her?" they whispered.
Her cold, mocking gaze felt like a thorn in his chest. And her final words, "Sebastian, you don't trust me," only made the ache in his heart worse. For some reason, a sharp pain gripped his chest.
Sebastian paused mid-step and called out to the housekeeper, Martha, who was about to step away.
"Has Mrs. Gates returned?"
Martha shook her head softly, replying, "No. Mrs. Gates went out this morning and hasn't come back."
His heart sank. "She hasn't come home. Does that mean… she really doesn't intend to come back?" he murmured.
He pulled out his phone, his voice taut even to his own ears as he called Taylor.
"Find out where Mrs. Gates went."
