My wolf stirred restlessly as Caleb continued his barrage of questions. Despite being my friend, he clearly didn't understand what Dorothy had meant to me—what she still meant, though I was only now beginning to realize it myself.
"You should be happy," Caleb said, finally catching his breath after laughing for a full minute. "That woman was never good enough for you, and it's not just me who thinks that."
I said nothing, my jaw clenched tight. How could I explain what I myself had failed to recognize until it was too late? If I never truly understood Dorothy's worth, why should I expect my friends to?
"Frankly, I still don't get what you saw in her," Caleb continued, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.
