Everett’s POV:
Scarlett took the report and studied it carefully, flipping through every page.
It clearly stated she did not have cancer—just superficial gastritis.
Compared to cancer, gastritis was practically nothing.
She blinked, hesitating for a moment before looking up at me.
“Is this real?”
Her bewildered expression amused me. My lips curved into a small smile as I gently ruffled her hair.
“Would I lie to you about something like this?”
“That’s not what I meant.” She shook her head, then asked, “But what about the earlier report?”
Director White explained with an embarrassed expression,
“I had the hospital look into it. Madam, I am truly sorry. The lab made an error while processing the samples. I apologize on behalf of the hospital and the staff involved. The relevant personnel will be disciplined.”
Scarlett quickly waved her hand.
“No need for that. They probably didn’t do it on purpose.”
So after all that fear… it had been a simple mix-up.
