Chapter 267
After snowing nonstop for a week, the skies over Yannburgh finally cleared.
Salt trucks were still grinding their way down the slushy roads, with workers on both sides of the street scraping the leftover snow.
Celeste Harper sat in the car, warm air brushing her face until her eyelids drooped.
“How much longer?” she asked, barely stifling a yawn.
“Almost there,” Ava Quarles said from the driver’s seat, her hands tight on the wheel — she was driving at a speed that could only be described as tortoise mode on ice.
Celeste grumbled, yawning again. “It’s a ten-minute drive tops. You’ve been on the road for nearly thirty. I could’ve walked there faster. You’re with Blue Eagle, right? Morgan drives like he’s got a rocket strapped to the bumper. You? Completely the opposite. What did you do before this?”
Ava’s face twitched when Blue Eagle came up, even though everything was supposedly out in the open now. She replied softly, “Sniper.”
