"Didn't you go to Ethan's wedding back then?"
Leonard grinned and added, "They tied the knot three years ago. Dad, your memory's really slipping."
Mr. Byrne frowned lightly.
"Come here, girl. Let me get a good look at you."
Celeste didn't really understand what was going on, but she couldn't refuse an elder, so she stepped forward.
Mr. Byrne raised a hand, and one of the family members immediately understood, handing him a pair of reading glasses. He carefully examined her for a few seconds, then took off the glasses and shook his head slowly.
"Don't try to fool me. My eyes still work just fine-that's not the same girl Ethan married."
Everyone looked around at each other, smiling politely. Leonard winked at Celeste, as if telling her not to take it to heart. After all, the old man was ninety-it wasn't uncommon to get things mixed up.
But Celeste's heart skipped a beat. Mr. Byrne's eyes were sharp and clear, not even a little hazy. Her expression stiffened slightly under his gaze.
