Chapter 240
George Tate walked down the stairs cautiously. Monica Leigh quickly rushed over with tears all over her face. “George, you’ve got to stand up for me! That woman pushed me down the stairs! Cassandra and that old hag, they’re trying to kill me!”
Before he could even say a word, Gertie Anderson let out a loud, exaggerated “Ugh!”—practically acting like she was going to throw up on the spot.
Monica and George turned to glare at her. Not recognizing Gertie, Monica assumed she was backup and snapped, pointing at her, “You crazy old bat! Who even are you? You hit me! I’m calling the cops!”
Old bat?
Yeah, Cassandra Tate wasn’t letting that slide. Did she really just call her godmother an old bat?
Cassandra’s lips curved into a mocking smirk. Without warning, she grabbed the fruit knife off the table and flung it straight at Monica.
“Aahh!” Monica screamed, ducking and covering her head.
Luckily, the knife landed to her left, about four inches away.
“Cassandra!” George shouted, clearly shaken.
