Valentina's Boyfriend?
William stood a few steps away.
The girl on the sofa was speaking before suddenly switching to text chat, her head lowered as she tapped on her phone keyboard.
Apparently, she had noticed his arrival.
Valentina typed: "Enough chatter, pick a few of the cars from my US mansion to sell. I urgently need the money, but keep my Koenigsegg One:1."
It took some doing to get that car, and its performance and aesthetics were to die for. She certainly didn't want to part with it, planning to drive it when she returned to Montavia.
Grey received the message and promptly replied, "WTF, what's going on? Are you about to sell properties?"
"My assets in the bank have been frozen, and even if they hadn't, I can't move them easily due to the risk of attracting unwanted attention," Valentina explained. "I do have several safes in my mansions, but only my iris can unlock them, not even explosives can force them open. Hence, selling the cars seems the easiest way."
Anyhow, she had more vehicles than she could ever use, so it wouldn't hurt to sell off a few.
Grey took a deep breath, emotionally stirred yet still keeping a good temper, "Do you think, I'm dead or incorrect? You need money up to few hundred billions? I'll transfer it to you."
"If we are both penniless, we should start selling off my assets, not yours. You hurt me deeply, darling," Valentina playfully retorted.
Valentina thought for a moment before agreeing, "Alright, besides, the time spent on selling these cars could be used on earning more money. So, you can help me pay wages to Blackwater."
Grey replied, "Does Blackwater have that many employees that you need to sell your cars for their wages?"
"One of her cars is easily worth fifty million," said Valentina. "Selling a few could not only support Blackwater but also half of Montavia."
Valentina casually typed, "Also, construct a 4000-square foot mansion." And then she suddenly spoke out loud, "Mr. Felton, are you planning to listen for much longer?"
Caught in the act, William was not embarrassed. He simply walked over and took a seat next to her, gazing at the girl typing away on her phone.
"Miss Ricardo doesn't want me to hear it, so how could I have heard it."
Considering Valentina's alertness, how could she possibly not notice her.
Of course, Valentina noticed. From the moment William came downstairs, she noticed, and she told Night Si that she owed someone a drink, which was intentionally spoken for William to hear.
As expected, William said, "A few bottles of wine are nothing to fuss about. Miss Ricardo, you don't need to keep it in your heart, let alone pay it back. Besides, I personally don't enjoy drinking."
Valentina gave a faint smile and looked at the man, "As expected of Mr. Felton, you're a man of substance."
Seeing Valentina's smile and hearing her words, William realized late, he figured that what she had said was meant for him to hear.
He understood now, this little girl loved to tease people when she was free.
"Compared to Miss Ricardo's... boyfriend, I dare not flaunt my wealth." William responded.
Night Si had been consistently sending voice messages that William had naturally overheard. This includes the other party's statement that Valentina was planning to sell her car to Blackwater in order to pay the team.
It seemed that Valentina had a lot of things hidden.
Valentina didn’t understand and looked at him.
At this time, William glanced at her phone, helping her clear doubts and said, "Miss Ricardo and her boyfriend's relationship is quite strong."
The boyfriend seemed to be quite rich and also generous, casually spending billions. Moreover, he seemed to be keeping tabs on the events of the Chadron and knew about the Blackwater Mercenary Group; he didn't appear to be a simple character.
The other party's personality was rather lively, but William couldn't identify any matching characters after a thorough search in his mind.
William thought, all the illogical incidents that happened around Valentina, such as her skills, might all be related to this person.
Suddenly, she entertained the idea of having Leonard investigate the woman’s background.
"Boyfriend?" Valentina waved her phone lightly, "You mean this guy?"
Given her tone and reference, could it not be? William slightly raised his brows, "Such an affectionate reference, have I misunderstood something here?"
"It doesn’t matter, Mr. Felton, as long as you're happy," Valentina was too lazy to explain, nor did she feel the necessity to do so.
Happy?
Where did he show signs of being happy?
"Now I think about it, having Mr. Howard Teng of Mapleville to look after Miss Ricardo initially was indeed unnecessary. With such capabilities and such a powerful… male friend, Miss Ricardo doesn't need my superfluous concern."
Hearing William's sudden remark, Valentina somewhat surprisedly asked: "Is it so, Mr. Felton?"
William: "Miss Ricardo saved the life of my nephew. You deserve this. Only now it seems, not only did my kind intentions fail to assist Miss Ricardo, they might have inadvertently annoyed her, meaning I had good intentions but caused more harm."
"Of course not, Mr. Howard has been of considerable help to me."
Even as Valentina verbally responded in this manner, watching the man's relaxed demeanor, she couldn’t help but ponder: Why on earth was William telling her this all of sudden, just for her to offer a word of thanks?
Surely he's not fishing for a compliment?
And, previously at Mr. Jefferson's house, hadn't he feigned ignorance of who she was? Why had he suddenly broken the act and admitted that she had saved Lewis's life?
What on earth was going on?
Valentina followed up with: "If Mr. Felton hadn't mentioned it today, I might have ended up thanking the wrong person."
After all, she always thought that's what Lewis meant.
"Of course, I'm glad I could help Miss Ricardo." William thought: Thank god I spoke up.
At that moment, her phone vibrated. Valentina quickly exited her chat with Grey and saw a new friend request in her contact list.
Upon opening the request, she saw an attached message – [I am Byron]
Valentina didn’t bother paying any attention; she swiped and went back.
Meanwhile, Byron was holding his phone, feeling an inexplicable sense of nervousness.
However, after waiting for a long time, there was no action.
No refusal, no reply, and no friend acceptance.
Could it be that she hadn’t seen it? Or…
Days later,
As William descended from upstairs, he heard quite a commotion downstairs.
He saw Leonard carrying a heavy wooden box into the hall through the main entrance: "Miss Ricardo, it seems to be your parcel."
Under the indication of Valentina, Leonard used a tool to open the box.
Inside the box were bottles of wine.
"Who sent Miss Ricardo so much wine?" Leonard was curious and picked up a bottle: "Holy smokes, are those diamonds embedded on the wine bottle?" He poked at it and took a closer look.
"Is this a real diamond?! Even a red diamond!"
m Continent has become a gathering place for mercenaries largely because of its abundant mines, including gold mines and diamond mines.
Wealthy businessmen are everywhere.
Most of the assignments these mercenaries undertake involve escorting newly mined diamonds and raw stones.
And in this m Continent, two-thirds of the mines are owned by their supreme God troops and William.
Therefore, Leonard could tell at a glance that the diamond on the bottle was real.
"A bottle inlaid with diamonds, that's freaking ostentatious... er, sorry, Miss Ricardo."
Realizing that he'd sworn, Leonard quickly shuts up.
"What kind of wine is this, let me check." Leonard said, pulling out his phone to look it up.
He was shocked by what he found.
Excitedly, he let out another expletive: "Holy crap! Arya Island whiskey limited edition, 39.86 million per bottle!"
Leonard read off his phone, "Produced by the British company, luSurybeverage. The bottle is made from British crystal, then covered with two gold bars, and inlaid with 8,500 diamonds and 300 rubies. The luxurious bottle is filled with old single malt cask-strength whiskey from Arya Island, known as the most expensive wine in the world..."
Shocked, Leonard carefully put the bottle back in the box. If this was broken, he would never be able to repay his debts even if he sold himself 800 times.
He couldn't help but scan another bottle that looked extremely expensive just from its appearance.
"Billionaire Vodka, 24.58 million!"
"Lei Yi Tequila 925, 23.25 million!"
Seeing those astronomic prices pop up one after another from the bottles he scanned, Leonard couldn't help but swallow hard.
He thought to himself: 'Thank heavens my master doesn't like alcohol, otherwise he would surely go broke.'
Leonard asked, "Miss Ricardo, these wines are..."
Valentina answered, "Sent by a friend."
Leonard wanted to ask, 'What kind of friend is this? So flamboyantly inhumane!'
