William Knew She Broke Someone's Leg

Valentina brought Augus to the school infirmary to treat his injuries. Blood was on Augus's face and nose. His eyes were swollen. There was a bruise on his forehead, and several places on his body were bruised. But to Valentina - the saintly doctor, who since childhood, had been subjected to cruel training far beyond that of ordinary people, and being shot at was an everyday occurrence - these wounds were nothing serious. There was no need to make a special trip to the hospital. Augus took two anti-inflammatory pills and sat quietly by the sick bed, holding a steaming cup. He sometimes seemed lost in thought, or, once in a while, he would sneak a look at Valentina and then sink deep into musing. "Are you scared?" asked Valentina. Augus looked up at her quickly - Valentina was standing lazily against the door frame, her arms crossed. She was different from the Valentina he had known for the past ten or so years. He hesitated. "Seeing me break someone's leg scared you?" "No, it's not." Augus quickly replied. "Then what is it?" He just had too many questions and didn't know where to start, so he asked what he cared about the most, "So, is this matter over now?" Valentina asked, "What, you regret not dealing with them?" Augus did not know if Valentina was violent or if she just didn't understand his point because of her unique thinking. "No, I mean, are they not going to bother us again? Are we okay now? Dad and Mom won't find out." "I've told you that even if you blow up this place today, I can solve it for you. I never bluff." Augus was silent for a moment and finally remembered to ask something. "Val, do you know the mayor?" "Not really familiar." "Then how would he…" "The mayor is always willing to help. Isn't that a blessing for the people of Mapleville?" Should she tell her that it was Lewis's intention? There's no need to explain to someone who won't intersect with her future. "......" "Any more questions?" "Yes." "What?" "Val, why are you so good at fighting? When did you learn it? How come I didn’t know about that?" "There're many things you don't know about which you'll learn eventually." Augus nodded vaguely. "Done asking?" Augus nodded, then shook his head. "Sis, where are you going when you take your leave?" "Going to Biddeford for something." "Going to Biddeford to get something?" Augus was bewildered. His elder sister had never even left the River District, so how could she possibly have anything in Biddeford? Before Augus could say anything else, Valentina suddenly leaned over and reached out to lift the hem of his pants on his left leg. Caught off guard, Augus jumped up as if even the slightest touch invoked a forbidden zone within him. His reaction was intense, and his movement so vigorous that some water tipped out from his cup. Anxiously, he straightened his body and asked, "What are you trying to do, Val?" His expression changed. As he spoke, he immediately swiveled his body to hide his left leg behind him. In an instant, he seemed to erect defensive spikes over his entire body. It was as if what Valentina wanted to touch wasn’t just his pant leg, but to undress him altogether. "I just want to look at your foot," Valentina stated abruptly, her tone as arrogantly domineering as it always was. That was just how she was - indifferent to the ways of the world and unwilling to kowtow to anyone. She loved shutting people up with brute force instead of arguing and was even more ruthless than what people presumed her to be. "No need, my foot isn't injured." "I want to see the old injury." Upon hearing Valentina's words, Augus quickly turned to look at her. Ever since becoming handicapped, Augus had always bundled himself up tightly. No matter how scorching the summer was, even when the fan was broken and he was drenched in sweat, he refused to wear shorts. He never set foot on the basketball court, nor would he walk past it. He would instinctively avoid crowds. To Augus, he would rather be beaten to a pulp and have his bones broken than have someone pull up his pant leg. Augus, who usually kept his distance from everyone and everything, unexpectedly found warmth in Valentina. However, now, he was being asked by the only person he trusted to reopen his old wounds. She knew full well how much he cared about this, yet she still did it. Augus found it unbearable. He frowned, his hand gripping tightly onto the fabric of his pants, and he remained silent for a long while. Valentina saw the hurt in his eyes but said nothing, silently watching him. A moment later, Augus sat down. Without saying a word, he pulled up his pants leg, his hand gripping the fabric so hard that his knuckles turned pale. Seeing this, Valentina subtly raised her eyebrows, finding her brother, whom she'd practically got for free, increasingly to her taste. "Is it very ugly?" Augus gritted his teeth, wondering if she would be frightened. Valentina squatted down to take a closer look. Suddenly, she reached out and squeezed Augus's calf. His pupils trembled violently. Before he could try to escape or ask Valentina what she was doing, she said, "The muscle atrophy isn't too severe. It can still be treated." Augus was taken aback. He looked at Valentina, his face full of disbelief. "What did you say?" "I said, I can treat it." Valentina raised her hand, pulled his pants leg back down, and asked, "Do you trust me?" Augus spoke up, "The doctor said..." "Just tell me, do you trust me?" Augus gazed at Valentina. No matter when, her face was always calm and composed, as if nothing could faze her. "I do." He didn't believe he could become a normal person again, but he believed Valentina. "Tomorrow I'll go to Biddeford and bring some medicine for you on my way back. If the treatment goes well, your leg should be as good as any normal person's by the end of the year." Augus stared blankly at Valentina. His face showed no reaction, but his heart was already in turmoil, akin to a raging tsunami. Rory couldn't rest easy and came over personally. Though Augus knew that his benefactor was the city mayor of Mapleville, seeing the prominent official and public figure from the TV news standing before them, reaching out to them with such proximity, showing so much concern for him and Valentina, he still found it surreal. He was too nervous to speak freely. Seeing Rory's great respect and enthusiastic attitude toward Valentina, it seemed clear that Valentina's claim that Rory was purely well-intentioned was undoubtedly just meant to calm him down. After leaving the school, Rory started making calls on his phone. Upon seeing the name Rory, Leonard couldn't remember who this person was. It was fortunate that he made several additional notes - the mayor of Mapleville. Rory didn't dare to take the credit, his pure motive being to maintain his presence and positive impression. Being cunning, he immediately apologized for not taking good care of Valentina. He played the move of "advancing in retreat" perfectly. Valentina was the lifesaver of Lewis, who specifically instructed to protect her well. Leonard dared not take it lightly and mentioned this to William when he was free. "Broke someone's leg?" William raised his eyes, it was the first time he saw such a strong girl who dared to be this harsh. "Yes." Leonard had the same reaction when he heard about it. "It appears she knows some martial arts." Otherwise, how could a girl get a chance to break a boy's leg? Leonard didn't expect that William would talk about this girl. He was extremely surprised and could only reply dryly, "She might have learned some boxing or something." William asked, "She didn't send any message this time, did she?"
