William Had Mental Problem
The Chairman of the Felton Group, William, had not shown up at the company for more than half a year ever since he disappeared at the end of last year.
Employees inevitably gossiped about this in private, but none of them dared to be too curious or speculate about his whereabouts.
They thought it was due to their low stature, however, they learned that the big shots had not seen William at any event, either.
Everyone knew that William was self-disciplined and wholly focused on his work. Ever since he took over the company, this kind of situation happened for the first time. Previously, he might be away for business for three to five months at most, during which there would still be traces of him. However, this time he seemed to disappear outright.
There were rumors that William was managing an overseas business and was unable to step away, and others said William was ill and resting at home.
These were the two most commonly heard theories.
William was young and healthy. Why would there be a persistent rumor of a serious illness? That was because many big shots in Biddeford heard whispers that the Felton family was sparing no expense to seek medical treatments everywhere.
Two months ago, an absurd rumor emerged. The Felton family, having exhausted all medical options, turned to superstition. They found a Taoist priest, invited him home, and performed a soul-summoning ceremony.
No one knew how the rumor came about, but some people believed it. Those who had conflicts with the Felton family quietly investigated the authenticity, hoping to hear the good news of William's serious illness and the loss of the family's power holder.
Initially, everyone thought that Gideon had reached his twilight years and William, the filial son, was seeking medical treatment for Gideon and didn't have time to manage the company.
However, after the rumor of the soul-summoning ceremony, everyone unanimously dismissed this idea. Because William, a well-educated person, would absolutely not do such superstitious things.
So everyone was more convinced that William was ill, and the Felton family, after exhausting all medical resources, resorted to such unorthodox methods for him.
As for what exactly happened, where did William go, and who the Felton family was seeking medical treatment for, only the Felton family knew.
The curtains were all drawn apart.
The sunlight streamed in, spilling all over the side of the bed.
Valentina had grown increasingly gaunt. She lay there silent, making everyone hesitant to speak loudly for fear of scaring her to death.
"Morning." Saying this, William bent down and kissed her forehead.
"I have to deal with a few meetings at the company today, but I will finish as soon as possible and come back to keep you company."
Speaking softly, he informed Valentina of his plans. He lingered by the bed for a while, wasting all his breakfast time and eventually leaving with an empty stomach.
Before leaving, he worriedly looked at her. He pulled out one of her hands from under the blanket, brought it to his mouth, and kissed it before leaving.
A gust of wind blew in from the balcony, raising a talisman that had been affixed to the doorframe to silently flutter in the breeze.
The outside rumors about William were not unfounded. The stories were actually even more outrageous.
The most absurd one, about him hiring a Taoist priest to perform a soul-calling ceremony, was true. This strange act was not only performed by William, a highly educated man, but he even went beyond that. He not only enlisted the help of a Taoist priest but also sought out a monk.
When William invited the Taoist priest home and held the ritual in front of his villa, with Valentina placed at the forefront, Gideon nearly slapped him.
She was alive and well, but he was holding these soul-calling services.
After that night, everyone in the Felton family felt that William had lost his mind. Even the tender-hearted Gabriela and William's aunt felt that he had gone mad, scaring everyone in the house and causing sleepless nights for several days.
In a few days, William had several accomplished monks come and recite scriptures at his house for a few days and pasted a heap of talismans everywhere.
This stirred up anxiety among everyone.
While Gabriela deeply respected different beliefs, she had never seen such a spectacle before. Worried about William, she spent two days in tears.
Gideon didn't stop William, leaving William to his antics, thinking that after a few days when he'd had his fill of causing an uproar, he would calm down.
But after sending the monk away, William had gathered a bunch of odd-looking instruments and found some sort of experts to study magnetic fields.
Mysticism and science were both being utilized.
Gideon had initially comforted himself with the thought that William was just grasping at straws out of desperation; however, when William continued on this path relentlessly, Gideon started to believe that his mental well-being was affected.
But William was quite lucid.
He wasn't just seeking help out of desperation.
When Tim and Grey heard his outrageous tactics, they merely cursed him for being insane without trying to stop him.
Because only they knew Valentina's soul had reincarnated.
Given Valentina's condition, William had no choice but to spin out all kinds of theories. Whether her soul no longer harmonized with this body, whether this deeply wounded body could no longer bear the weight of her soul...
It was a challenge for a philosophically mature person like William to wrap his mind around the topic of soul reincarnation, forcing himself to think outside of the box.
And once the power of imagination was unleashed, it couldn't be controlled.
He even thought of the most terrifying possibility. What if her soul had already left this body...
This thought left William panicked and at his wit's end. He immediately made a call to Tim.
Fortunately, Tim grounded him with his reasoning.
The real Valentina was already dead. If Victoria's soul had left this body, then this body should have shown no signs of life a long time ago, rather than being in the current state of unconsciousness.
Just as his heart had settled, William began to wonder again. If Victoria's soul could inhabit this body, perhaps others could as well.
What if, when she woke up, the soul had already been replaced by someone else's? Perhaps the soul currently inside this body was no longer hers.
Not only did William scare himself with this thought, but he also frightened Tim, because it was indeed a possibility.
He frightened himself for two months, exhausting himself until he was utterly worn out, but now he was finally back to normal.
Having not been to the company for several months, William today presided over two meetings in the office. In order to finish the work as quickly as possible, he sat in the meeting room restlessly for a whole day.
He left without fully handing over some subsequent matters.
Even during the meeting, William's phone was always connected to the surveillance in the room. Yet, he felt uneasy.
He rushed home at around six o'clock in the evening.
Only after seeing Valentina did the uneasiness in his heart dissipate.
After listening to the doctors, nurses, and servants report on Valentina's condition for the day, he went to have dinner.
In the evening, William finished up the remaining work in his study, bathed, groomed himself, and then returned to the bedside.
Seeing Valentina's nails had grown again, he held a nail cutter and one of Valentina's hands, carefully trimming her nails for her.
With his head down, he was extremely meticulous with each nail, even running his fingers over them to ensure smoothness after cutting.
Judging by his proficiency, it was obvious that he had done this many times before.
After cutting her fingernails, he also trimmed her toenails for her.
All the while, he was talking to her.
