Talk to My Lawyer
Rory furrowed his eyebrows, causing everyone present to tremble inwardly.
"It seems not to be a misunderstanding after all." Rory lowered his voice, "Who can explain the whole situation to me from beginning to end?"
Seeing the unfavorable situation, the few school leaders who had nothing to do with the incident tacitly looked toward the math teacher and the head teacher.
Upon meeting Rory's gaze, the math teacher was scared to the point of weakness in her legs. Facing the silent pressure from the school leaders, she braced herself to stand up, stuttering,
"So... Mr. Howard, this is what happened. Valentina's academic performance has always been not very promising. However, this time she suddenly ranked first in the grade in the math test, so…"
"So, you think she cheated?" Rory directly took over the conversation, "Where's the evidence?"
"Evi, evidence… evidence…"
The math teacher, unable to utter another word, broke out into a cold sweat, and her pleading eyes turned to the head teacher and the principal for help.
However, everyone else was too worried about themselves; no one paid her any attention at all. The principal, who was the highest authority in the school, had to step in to mediate, "Indeed, it's Mrs. Malory's dereliction of duty."
Responsibility was entirely pushed away.
The math teacher cursed the principal in her heart for his lack of righteousness, but it was indeed her who caused the problem; she had to accept her fate and admitted, "It was my mistake."
Rory said, "So, you are unable to provide evidence to prove that Valentina cheated, yet you have determined that she did cheat and intend to expel her. Christopher, is this how you dealt with it?"
The fire suddenly redirected back at him. The principal laughed awkwardly in response, "This, this is a misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding? I heard it very clearly when I just walked in." Rory didn't consider the principal's feelings at all.
Rory was here not to deal with problems, but simply to back up Valentina. This was someone the Felton Family asked him to take care of.
"Christopher, the SAT is just around the corner, and Valentina is a prospective college student. Putting aside the fact that you have no evidence to convict her and causing psychological harm, which may affect her future, I want to ask who gave you the authority to arbitrarily expel a college-bound student!" Rory's voice rose dramatically, nearly frightening everyone present.
"Yes, yes, yes. It's the school's negligence, and I am greatly responsible for this." The principal wiped the sweat off his forehead repeatedly.
"Humph!" With a cold huff, Rory's aura was powerful enough to make others not dare to raise their heads. After dismissing the principal, he turned to Valentina and asked, "Miss Ricardo, how do you wish to handle this?"
If a satisfactory result wasn't reached today for Valentina, aka, the Felton Family, he felt his career would come to an end.
"My lawyer is on the way. Rory, don't trouble yourself." Valentina didn't know this so-called mayor who came from god-knows-where, of course, she didn't want to owe him any favors.
Although she could guess someone must have asked Rory to be so attentive towards her, Tim was already on the way there. Valentina definitely didn't want Rory to have false merits or rewards.
Given this rare chance to demonstrate his capability, how could Rory miss it? With a generous gesture, he commanded, "Call the invigilators to me. Also, bring up the surveillance. As of now, maintaining Miss Ricardo's innocence is the most important."
Valentina was protected by the Felton Family, while the Feltons had a great reputation. Rory simply couldn't believe that Valentina would cheat.
In his view, as long as Valentina needed it, what resources couldn't the Felton Family provide? Was there really a need to cheat for such a small test?
Furthermore, Valentina dared to contact a lawyer, which meant she had a clear conscience.
He therefore ordered to bring forth the surveillance and find the invigilating teacher.
"Well..." The principal seemed worried. If they really did wrongly accuse Valentina... But since Rory already addressed, how dare he not follow the order?
However, the math teacher and the class head felt confident, as no one knew better than them about Valentina's lousy grades.
With her intellect, how could Valentina get such high scores? Only if hell froze over.
Until now, the math teacher still believed that Valentina was simply a blind squirrel finding a nut when she happened to answer the question correctly last time during her podium session.
Valentina didn't stop Rory's behavior.
Soon, the invigilator was called over.
Completely confused about what was happening and standing before Rory, the invigilator didn't have the nerve to twist the facts and answered honestly, "During the exam that day, I didn't observe any suspicious behavior from Valentina."
The surveillance was immediately checked.
More than a dozen pairs of eyes were glued to the screen.
In the footage that was pulled up, from the moment the invigilator handed out the papers, to when Valentina finished the exam, she showed no abnormalities during the twenty or so minutes of exam time.
The math teacher and the head teacher were stunned.
The words that Valentina said to her in the classroom suddenly echoed in the Math teacher's mind. "Looks like your time as a teacher is over."
Irrespective of everything else, with a preoccupied mind about her impending farewell to her profession, the math teacher hastily forwarded the video bar and played the surveillance video again.
"This is impossible. How could Valentina possibly get full marks? This is absolutely fishy." The math teacher was emotionally stirred. On an impulse, she directly voiced out what she thought.
She quickly pointed out the suspicious spot. "Look, she answered the questions as if she had known the answers beforehand. Even I couldn't finish six pages of questions in just over twenty minutes. She just looked at the multiple-choice questions and wrote down the answers. This isn't something an ordinary person can do."
"Knew the answers beforehand? So we have to check the surveillance of the storage room? No problem, the police are already on their way. Let them handle the investigation and evidence gathering," Valentina said calmly, even suggesting an idea to the math teacher.
"Christopher!" Rory was furious. "You are ganging up to bully a student. This is too much!"
The principal almost knelt in fear on the spot.
Admonishing the math teacher fiercely, he gnashed his teeth and said, "Apologize to Valentina right now! The truth is in front of us. What else is there to talk about?"
The principal was on the verge of a breakdown.
The math teacher was completely stunned, and her ability to think was replaced by fear. Being growled by the principal, she could only bow and apologize, "I am so sorry, Valentina."
The principal said, "It's our team's and the school's fault. We will take full responsibility for Mrs. Malory's hurt to Valentina. Whether it's dealt with in private, or through whatever solution, we will fully cooperate with her. We will definitely give her a satisfactory response. What do you think, Valentina?"
The principal understood that everything was centered around Valentina's decisions.
He was genuinely curious, wondering how powerful Valentina's background was. Even a mere student could make Rory adopt such an accommodating attitude.
The math teacher, who was scared incoherent, kept apologizing. Her current feelings could only be described as 'staring death in the face'.
Faced with the principal and math teacher begging for mercy, Valentina was utterly unfazed. "Want to discuss the details? Talk to my lawyer."
Everyone followed her gaze, only to see a young man in a stylish suit, who carried an impressive air about him, stride in.
The man didn't crack a smile, and his demeanor was a kind of paradox hard to describe. At first glance, one could get a sense of an elegant scholar about him, but looking closer, one could also sense a certain... murderous air.
