Chapter 774 Fear of Losing Softie
It was at Glacier City in R Country.
“How is it? Did you find Ms. Ruby?”
“Not yet. We only managed to find the car Ms. Ruby took on the way to the airport which was written-off. We found it at a recycling plant.”
Old K sent batches of people to look for Ruby, but to no avail.
“Keep looking for her. You have to find Ms. Ruby!”
“Yes.”
Old K was worried. It had been two days but there was no news regarding Ruby’s whereabouts at all. What if something bad really happened to Ruby at Glacier City? How was he going to explain it to Master Blaine?
…
It was at the Western Border.
Blaine would call Ruby every two days. He would not call her every day because she mentioned before that calling each other every day felt more like him checking in on her rather than caring about her or missing her.
Blaine was not the clingy type of boyfriend. Hence, they did not mind talking to each other on the phone every two days.
However, he could not get through to her even after calling her a few times this week.
He had a vague feeling that something was wrong.
Blaine’s phone rang as he was deep in thoughts. It was Old K.
He picked up the phone.
“Old K, what’s wrong?”
“Master Blaine… something bad might have happened to Ms. Ruby.”
…
Blaine rushed all the way back to Glacier City in the middle of the night.
He went straight to the Glaceau’s mansion instead of the Kingswood Mansion as soon as he arrived.
He barged into the house with a murderous look.
Blade was about to go to bed at that moment. He frowned as he heard movement outside. Donning his pajamas, he walked out of his bedroom and asked the butler, “What’s wrong?”
“Old Master, Young Master is back.”
Blade’s frown deepened and he said, “He’s supposed to be at the border. Why did he suddenly come back?”
“I’m… not sure about that.”
Blaine strode into the house as soon as the butler was done talking. The house was filled with a hostile and evil aura.
“Something happened to Softie. Are you behind this?”
Blade looked dignified as usual. He said in a cold and sharp tone, “You come barging into the house, venting your temper, and questioning me as soon as you come back. Did you even get permission to leave the border?”
Blaine questioned him again, “Are you feeling guilty or are you avoiding my question?”
“Blaine, how can you talk to your father with that attitude?”
Blaine’s gaze never left Blade’s face as he said, “Answer my question! Were you behind Softie’s disappearance?”
Blade was furious. His hands behind him curled up into a tight ball of fist as he answered in disdain, “How can you leave your post without permission just for a woman? Blaine, you’re crazy!”
His eyes were filled with anger. He was extremely disappointed in his son.
The tension between the father and son grew stronger.
The butler could not help but said to Blaine, “Young Master, you really misunderstood Old Master. It was true Ms. Softie came to the Glaceau’s Mansion two days ago, but…”
Blade cut the butler off before he could even finish his sentence. He yelled at him, “Caleb!”
He was signalling the butler to shut up.
“Why was Softie here? Did you send someone to kidnap her to Glacier City?”
Blade faced his back toward his son. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his anger down. Frowning, he said, “I did not kidnap her. I sent my man to invite her here and she came to see me willingly!”
Blaine gave him a mocking smile and said, “What difference does that make?”
“Blaine Glaceau! If you’re done throwing a tantrum, get your a*s back to the border!”
Blade’s blood was boiling. The father and son were suddenly squaring off.
Blaine pulled out his gun and aimed it at Blade.
The butler who was standing aside was taken aback. “Young Master, you can’t do this!”
“Don’t stop him! Let him shoot me! A son pointing his gun at his father for a woman. How humiliating!”
Blaine’s red eyes turned cold as he looked at his dignified father. “I’m going to repeat myself once again. Are you behind Softie’s disappearance?”
Blade let out a cold hum and scorned, “I would do it fair and square if I wanted to kill her. I won’t play dirty.”
Blade turned around and walked upstairs after saying that. He could no longer bear to see Blaine who was standing downstairs.
The butler took a glance at Blade’s figure as he sighed and said to Blaine, “Young Master, how can you misunderstand Old Master like that? He did bring Ms. Softie to the mansion the other day but he did not do anything to her.”
Blaine lowered his hand which was holding his gun.
He was blinded by the urgency of the situation.
He kept thinking about Softie’s safety and her life the whole night when he was flying back to Glacier City.
“Young Master, although your relationship with Old Master is different from an ordinary father and son, but how could Old Master have the heart to kill someone you love?”
Blaine lifted his eyes and looked upstairs. He pursed his lips and knew that he went overboard.
”Uncle Caleb, please help me… apologize to father.”
Old Caleb smiled upon hearing that. “Ah, alright. Also, please don’t be too worried about Ms. Softie. After all, she’s not an ordinary girl. She’ll be fine.”
Blaine nodded his head and rubbed his hands. Then, he strode out of the mansion.
…
It was in the study room upstairs.
Old Caleb knocked on the door and went inside. “Old Master, Young Master has left. He wanted me to pass on his apologies for misunderstanding you.”
“Leaving his post without permission and coming back in the middle of the night is one thing. But how dare he question me instead of greeting me as soon as he entered the house. He’s really growing wings now. He even dared to point a gun at me.”
Old Caleb found it somewhat amusing listening to Blade complaining. He let out a faint laugh and said, “Old Master, Young Master was in too much of a hurry. Both of you have the same personality and you know Young Master very well. Young Master is always a kid in your eyes. Don’t get angry with your kid.”
“Hmphh, a kid? He’s over 30 years old. How can he be so emotional? He’s disturbing my sleep!”
Blade frowned as he was irritated. The scene of Blaine pointing his gun at him kept playing in his mind. He simply could not calm down.
He could not help but to roast Blaine again, “Apologize? He should’ve apologized to me himself instead of asking you to pass on his message.”
Old Caleb was speechless.
A snap sounded across the room as Blade slammed a file on his table. “What a waste for me to raise him! He disowned his own family because of a girl! What if I really harmed that girl? Old Caleb, do you think everything will only be over after he fires his gun at me tonight?”
Old Caleb held back his laughter and said, “That won’t do.”
“No? I bet that will be the case!”
The more he talked, the angrier he became.
“Forget it! Let’s not talk about him! He’s not my son. I must have owed it to him in the past life!”
Old Caleb could not resist asking, “Young Master left his post without permission and came back to Glacier City. I believe the cabinet will go crazy tomorrow.”
Wearing a straight face, Blade was angry yet he could not do anything. “He’s really ticking me off. Now I have to help him clean up his mess! He should’ve just left R Country with that woman! I will have one less thing to worry about then!”
Blood is thicker than water.
Old Caleb said in a warm tone, “If Young Master really left, you might see him only once or twice a year. Won’t you miss him?”
Blade frowned and said in a cold tone, “Why would I miss him? Miss him for fighting with me all the time?”
He was stubborn.
Old Caleb laughed and shook his head.
…
Blaine was on his way back to Kingswood Mansion.
Old K was driving while Blaine was sitting in the backseat. His face was cold as ice and emotionless.
“Master Blaine, it’s actually a good thing we don’t know Ms. Ruby’s whereabouts for now.”
Blaine lowered his head. He rested his hands on his legs and clenched his fingers. His knuckles turned white.
The light was too dim in the car. Old K could not see the expression on his lowered face.
He could only hear Blaine’s hoarse and deep voice calling him. It was as though he was falling apart. “Old K.”
“Yes? What’s wrong, Master Blaine?”
“You know what? I suddenly realized that I’m not afraid of anything on my way back to Glacier City. I won’t even be afraid of losing my position as the leader but I fear losing Softie. I won’t be able to live the rest of my life without her.”
