Chapter 517 Tactics In Winning Over His Wife's Heart
"I'll get Kush to drop by the wedding gown haute couture shop tomorrow."
Verian nodded her agreement. Even though they had decided on her wedding gown, Verian still looked a little gloomy.
"Is there anything else? Aren't you happy that we're having our wedding next week?"
"It's nothing. When I delivered the wedding invitation card to Sister-in-law today, she still seemed to have feelings for you. I'm afraid that she might take it too hard and continue to daydream about being with you."
"Aren't you on bad terms with her? Why would you worry about her now?"
Verian rolled her eyes at him. "She is Zaynie's mother, your sister-in-law, after all. We can never break our connection to her, and besides, Dad still has hope for Sister-in-law. I do want to get along with her."
Heaton smiled and pulled her into his embrace. Then he lowered his head and kissed on her forehead. He continued to pamper her. "Since when has our Riana become so kind and thoughtful of others?"
Verian lifted her gaze and looked at his gorgeous complexion. She was tempted to do something, and so she started to unbutton his clothes. "I'm not good at being thoughtful; I'm good at taking off clothes... Do you want to try?"
Heaton was speechless at her playful behavior.
"Mrs. Fudd, don't you feel shy about flirting with me, huh?"
Verian covered his lips with her hand. However, the man pulled her hand away, and with both his hands cupping her cheeks, he started to kiss her…
…
The night before their wedding ceremony, Old Master Fudd and Madam Gaunt told Heaton and Verian to sleep in different bedrooms.
Yandel bought a luxurious condominium unit in North City so that Verian could be married off to Heaton from her 'home.'
Serene and Xylean were Verian's bridesmaid, and the night before the wedding, they had a sleepover in the condominium.
Verian was the center of attention. All her loved ones were there, including Madam Gaunt, Yandel, Xylean, Serene, and Helen.
At that moment, Verian received a call from Heaton. She glanced at the people in the house. They would eventually find out that Heaton had called her if she intended to hide the truth from them. She explained, "Little Pickle must be crying and causing a ruckus at home."
Xylean put her arm around Verian. "Come on, Heaton must be missing you so much that he can't fall asleep, and so he's calling you at such a late hour.
Verian blushed. "I'm telling the truth. Little Jelly Bean and Little Pickle like to cling to me. They will definitely cry when I'm not there."
Helen chuckled and exposed her lies. "I don't know if Little Pickle would cry in search of his mom. Anyway, Tyler was playing with Little Jelly Bean tonight, and he just sent me a video. Little Jelly Bean looks happy, and she doesn't seem to be looking for her mom."
Verian pouted. "You guys said that Heaton and I couldn't be allowed to sleep together on the day before the wedding. I'm staying at a place far away from the Fudd Family mansion now. Am I not allowed to answer his phone call too?"
Serene burst into laughter. "Verian, I didn't know you're this clingy to President Fudd."
Madam Gaunt showed an amiable smile on her face. "All right, all right. Answer his call then. If you don't, I'm certain you will secretly call Heaton before you sleep."
The phone rang for quite a while before she excused herself from the group and went to the balcony to answer the call.
The moment the call got through, Verian started to complain without giving Heaton a chance to utter a word. "They surrounded me and watched over me as if I'm a thief. That's why it took me so long to answer your call. Why are there so many wedding customs? Let's not hold any wedding anymore in the future."
Verian blurted the thoughts in her mind, and Heaton found it hilarious. "Mrs. Fudd, how many weddings do you want to hold anyway?"
Verian thought about what she had said before she realized that she had made a blunder. "No! It is just a slip of the tongue. "
Meanwhile, Heaton's car was right in front of the condominium. The man leaned his back against his car, and as he talked to Verian on the phone, he lifted his head and stared at the balcony on the fifth floor.
"Look down from your balcony."
Verian's heart skipped a beat in excitement. She had a rough idea in mind of what he wanted to do; she quickly pushed the window open and stuck her head out of it.
The man on the ground floor looked at her with a humored look on his face.
Verian subconsciously wanted to call out to him. "Heaton!"
The moment she blurted his name, she quickly covered her mouth. She feared that the people in the living room might hear her.
Heaton's eyes were fixed on her. Then he spoke on the phone, "Rest well tonight. I'll come by and pick you up tomorrow morning."
Verian leaned her head on the window and looked at Heaton intently from the fifth floor. "We're a legitimate husband and wife, so why does it look like we're having an affair instead? We even have to guard against our family members."
"Frankly speaking, it took me some effort to sneak out of the house with Little Jelly Bean's help. There are five pairs of eyes there—Jinn, Zander, Wilson, Carter, and Old Master—who watched over me at the house."
Verian sighed. "It's hardly any better here too. They guarded me as if they were guarding against theft. They were even reluctant to let me answer your call, too. They said that it is ominous to meet the groom the night before the wedding. All of these happened because of what my mom told your dad. What kind of experts did they hire? Why are there so many rules and regulations?"
Heaton leaned his back against the car leisurely and said, "I'm more than satisfied even though I'm just looking at you from afar."
Verian's eyes curved into a crescent moon-like shape as she beamed. "Me too, but I want to run downstairs and hug you. "
She suddenly wished she had a pair of wings so that she could just fly down and hug him without anyone noticing her brief disappearance in the house. They had not embraced each other for the whole day.
Heaton raised his brows as he thought of an idea. "It's late now, and since they're not asleep, you should volunteer to get supper for them."
After they hung up, she showed her 'concern' for the people in the house. "It's getting late now. Are you guys hungry?"
Xylean rubbed her belly. "I'm craving for a barbecue."
Serene is a foodie. The moment she heard Xylean mentioned barbecue, her eyes sparkled with joy. "I want to eat too. I want to eat crayfish!"
When Xylean and Serene talked about food, everyone felt a little hungry. Verian immediately suggested, "I noticed there's a barbecue restaurant in the neighborhood. They do sell crayfish too. I'll go out and get them for you guys!"
Xylean held her back before Verian managed to run off. She glanced at Xylean. "Just let us do the job. How can the bride run errands the night before the wedding?"
Helen hit the nail on the head. "Verian, you can't possibly be thinking of doing something bad, right?"
Verian cried out against the injustice. "It's so late now. What bad things could I do? I can't sneak back into the Fudd Family mansion, right? Aren't there people watching over Heaton too?"
Verian was forcefully pressed onto the couch, and they insisted she sit there and not go anywhere.
As everyone chit-chatted, Yandel's phone lit up. He received a WeChat message from Heaton.
[Didn't you always want to know how Riana forgave me last time? If you can find a way to get Riana downstairs, I will teach you how to win your woman's heart."]
Yandel shifted his gaze toward Xylean and pursed his lips in deliberation. Then he said, "There are so many people here, and since we're getting barbecue food and crayfish, I can't carry them alone. Let me go with Riana. You all should be at ease if I go with her, right?"
Xylean questioned him, "Are you saying that you can't carry barbecue food and crayfish all by your manly self?"
Yandel was a quick-witted man; he said, "There are six of us here. If we're getting a pound of crayfish for each of us, then that's six pounds. Also, if we're getting ten skewers each, there will be a total of 60 skewers for all of us. I understand if you want to treat your man as God who can do anything. However, don't you think it's a little inhumane to treat your man like a slave?"
Xylean sat on the couch in sullen silence.
"If you don't want Riana to come with me, then you can take her place. I will be glad if you could do that."
"I'm not going."
'Of course, I don't want to be alone with him,' Xylean thought to herself.
In the end, Yandel successfully persuaded everyone, and he managed to bring Riana out of the house.
