Chapter 6
Feeling intimidated by Edmund's imposing presence, Peter quickly apologized and left the room.
Edmund walked over to Cecilia, his expression cold. His tone was tinged with displeasure as he said, "Next time you run into someone like that, just tell them that you have a boyfriend. Is that so hard to say?"
Cecilia looked at him, feeling nothing but absurdity. He had said that he would never fall for her in a million years, so what was this sudden possessiveness about?
A few days after being discharged, Edmund suddenly suggested taking Cecilia to a class reunion. She knew that he had always looked down on such events, but this time, he had brought it up himself. Clearly, he had had an ulterior motive.
As Cecelia had expected, she spotted Leena as soon as they arrived at the gathering. On the surface, Edmund acted cold and distant toward Leena, as if they had little to do with each other. But when one truly had feelings for another, it was impossible to hide it completely.
Halfway through the party, Cecilia went to the restroom. She returned to find everyone playing a game of Truth or Dare.
Leena had lost and was asked to answer a personal question. She looked embarrassed and was about to speak when Edmund suddenly snatched the card and coldly said, "I'll take the punishment for her."
The question on the card was, "Who is your sexual fantasy? Give the initials of their name."
The group egged him on. "This is pretty personal, but it's no big deal for him! He has a girlfriend, so it's definitely her!"
Edmund paused for a moment, then replied calmly, "LB."
Cecilia's heart sank when she heard this, and her fingertips trembled slightly.
The initials LB stood for Leena Berger.
Cecelia couldn't bear to watch any longer and turned to leave. After leaving the venue, she sent Edmund a message that read, "I'm not feeling well. I'm heading back first."
She stood by the roadside, about to hail a cab, when a familiar voice called out from behind her. "Cece!"
She froze, then turned around to see Edmund walking quickly toward her.
"Why did you come out?" she asked.
His brow furrowed slightly, and his eyes were filled with a hint of urgency. "You said that you weren't feeling well. What's wrong? Let me take you to the hospital."
Cecilia looked at him. There was a wave of complicated emotions rising in her chest.
She shook her head before saying calmly, "I'm fine. I'm just a little dizzy. Aren't you going to stay and keep playing?"
"You're my girlfriend. If my girlfriend says that she's not feeling well and leaves, what am I supposed to do there?" he asked. He reached out to touch her forehead as if checking for a fever.
Cecilia watched Edmund, feeling confused. She thought that he had come out that night to see Leena. So, why had he rushed out because of her message?
However, she didn't ask, and there was no need to. Just moments ago, her parents had texted her, saying that the paperwork was almost done. She could leave this place and escape all of this for good in just two days.
Feeling that her forehead wasn't hot, Edmund finally relaxed and didn't press further. He simply said lowly, "Let's go home."
…
Cecilia woke up groggily in the middle of the night, faintly hearing the sound of a phone call coming from the balcony. She opened her eyes, got up quietly, and tiptoed over, only to find Edmund smoking on the balcony.
His phone was on speaker and placed on the railing. The voice on the other end was soft, but she could make out the words as she got closer.
"Eddie, we need to make it brutal for the 99th revenge! Isn't your anniversary with Cecilia the day after tomorrow? Tell her that you've prepared a surprise, blindfold her, and take her to my abandoned villa.
"Once you're inside, make up an excuse to leave. After you're out, we'll set the place on fire and lock the doors, trapping her in the fire. What do you think?"
"That's a great idea! She'll be completely desperate and start pounding on the doors like crazy!"
"Yeah! Let her taste what true despair feels like!"
A burst of laughter came from the other end of the line. It was like everyone thought that the plan was perfect.
Edmund's veins bulged slightly as he just imagined the scene, and his voice carried a hint of anger as he said, "No. I disagree."
