Chapter 88

"What are you laughing at?" Carroll, confused, pulled my hand and let me sit down. I said with a smile, "I thought only the ill-bred like Mrs. Laura would make a scene. Obviously, I made a mistake." "Doesn't Old Madame Brown act like Mrs. Laura now?" "What Madame? She is just an unreasonable old woman." "Her background isn't much different from that of Laura," Carroll poked my forehead, "You're naughty." Joey helped Old Madame Brown up with all his Jason and then whispered in her ear. Old Madame Brown instantly stopped crying. She glared at me. "Carroll, your happy days will end soon. You have a soft spot now." "Oh?" Carroll stood up and straightened his trousers. "I am interested in how you will make use of my soft spot." After that, he pulled me away. I looked back at Nathan lying on the ground. I didn't feel sorry for him because he deserved this punishment. Back in Bamboo Pavilion, I lay on the desk and stared at the man who was working. No wonder Euna wanted to marry Carroll. Carroll was the best boyfriend in the legend. He would avenge me if there were bullies. He would take me home after I suffered injustice. Most importantly, he was rich and handsome. Where could I find another good husband like him? How fortunate I was! Perhaps because of my gaze, Carroll stopped his work. "What is in your mind?" I thought for a moment and then got an excuse. "I was thinking what Old Madame Brown had said?" "Hmm?" "Soft spot. What did she mean?" I asked. The look in Carroll's eyes became cold. Carroll rubbed my nose and said, "Don't worry. The soft spot is inside me, so she can't poke it." I felt that this soft spot was a threat to Carroll. Because I saw worry in his eyes. Then, Carroll coaxed me to sleep in my room. Later, Jason walked into his study. I vaguely heard the conversation in the study. Jason said, "The Smith Group had some unusual moves after learning of your news." After a long silence, Carroll said, "It is time to teach the insolent Madden a lesson now." Jason sounded worried. "Madam..." "She doesn't care about the Smith family. Don't worry. Send more people to protect her." I couldn't hear the rest of the conversation. Carroll was right about one thing, and that was I didn't care about the Smith family. It would be best for me to break off ties with them forever. During my sleep, I had a dream. In my dream, I gave birth to a son for Carroll. My son had fair skin and round eyes. He looked like me but was born with elegance like Carroll. My son was an innocent prince. However, Carroll left. He abandoned me and my son. He left me for Euna, who wore a good dress. I cried with my child in my arms. There was nothing I could do but cry. The next day, I woke up. I found a dress that looked expensive and put it on. At the dining table, I ate breakfast sullenly. There were no eggs for breakfast today, but the nutritious porridge appeared at the table as before. After a helpless sigh, I took sips of porridge. Carroll came down from upstairs. He wore a black suit but didn't button his matching shirt well, so his muscles and collarbones were exposed. This seductive look irritated me, so I rolled my eyes, turned my head, and muttered, "Why isn't there a guide for a good husband?" Carroll was stunned for a moment. Then, he turned my head to look at him with his hands. "What did you say?" "I say, you, Carroll Brown, are terrible. You abandoned your wife and son for Euna, who has big boobs and a good butt!" Then, I took a mouthful of porridge. Carroll sat opposite me and looked me up and down with a cold face. "Did Euna pick on you?" "Look! You spoke up for her!" I put down my spoon in anger. Carroll thought for a moment. "When did I run away with Euna?" "Yesterday, at night, between 12 p.m and 8 a.m. in my dream. You left me and my son behind and then ran away with Euna!" I felt even angrier. I pointed to Carroll's collar and said, "Button up, okay?" Carroll raised his hand and casually buttoned his shirt. He asked, "Did we have a child in your dream?" "Isn't your abandoning me and runing away with another woman the key point?" I crossed my arms over my chest and questioned Carroll seriously. "I am Cheuk Restaurant!" Carroll's gaze wandered on my body. What an insult! I grabbed my bag beside me to leave. At the door of the dining room, I looked back and said, "Put on a tie." "Kelly." Carroll called me, so I looked back at him. "Yes?" "Do you really want to bear my child?" Da*n it! Carroll teased me, so I flushed from my cheeks to my ears. After one glare at Carroll, I left quickly. Recently, I was busy selecting suitable fabrics with Julie. We would soon have a meeting with Mrs. Anderson. I arrived at the studio early today, but Julie was already here. Her eyes were red. It seemed she had just cried. Julie looked haggard and worn. I squeezed into the small office and asked angrily, "Who bullied you? Jane again? I'll teach her a lesson for you!" I rolled up my sleeves to look for Jane, but Julie, scared, grabbed my hand. "Not her. Some domestic problems." "Domestic problems?" Knowing that Julie had a fiance, who lived with her, I asked, "Did your fiance bully you?" "I feel tired. Marriage, love, and reality, all together is so tiring." Then, Julie wiped her tears. Later, she forced a smile, ugly than a crying face. "I'm fine. Let's get back on the fabrics." I stared at the fabrics Julie had chosen in a daze and then asked, "Julie, if you aren't happy, why don't you leave that man?" Julie showed me a bitter smile. Then, she folded the selected fabrics and sorted them out. "A person like me has no choices." "I don't think so. You didn't commit crimes like murder. Why can't you have choices? You are unhappy with your fiance, so why don't you break up with him?"
