Chapter 86
This answer amused me. I nodded. "The daughter of Jessica's best friend. She didn't excel after learning from Jessica for ten years. How ungifted!"
"Jane can stay here because Jessica needs the connections of her mother. It doesn't matter if Jane's talented or not," explained Julie.
"Is her mother an entrepreneur? An overbearing boss?"
Julie shook her head. "No, her mother is a famous social butterfly."
This sounded interesting but confused me.
Julie leaned over and lowered her voice. "Who sleeps with men!"
I covered my mouth with surprise. "Isn't that a moral issue?"
"What issue? That is the upper class. Men like business, and so do women. Jane can be arrogant, thanks to her connections."
What an astonishment to me!
After the shock, I discussed with Julie about the design. Then, we left for lunch.
"Do you like steak? I know a good restaurant nearby."
That was the world of the girls. Julie and I became good friends after sharing the gossip.
I loved meat, and the recent dishes at home were light. Therefore, I didn't say no to Julie's suggestion.
Suddenly, I heard the voice of Jacques.
"Baby girl, where are you going?"
"To grab some food." With a meek smile on my face, I said, "Jacques, don't you need to go to work?"
"I'm on leave. I will stay in Costsley for the coming few days. Where will you dine? I haven't had enough. I'll treat you. Let's go."
Speaking, Jacques held my hand.
Right then, the woman next to Jacques separated him from me.
Wasn't she Jane?
Was Jacques the blind date Jessica had mentioned this morning?
Julie tugged at my sleeve and said, "See you later. I will order takeout."
"I'll go with you!"
I wanted to say my goodbyes to Jacques, but he pulled me to him and pushed Jane away.
"Where are you going?" Jacques asked me.
"To have lunch. I don't want to ruin your blind date!" I said honestly.
"Didn't you get back to work? Why are you following me?"
Jacques gave Jian a bad look.
"Let's go. I'll take you to something delicious. I know a restaurant nearby, and it is famous for its steak." Jacques said to me.
"Well, I'm going there."
"I want to try the steak."
Jane sounded coquettish and was quite different from the shrew this morning.
I wanted lunch rather than a conflict with her.
Therefore, the three of us arrived at the restaurant.
With wavy hair, Jane wore a dress and high heels, so her image was not in line with that of the fast food restaurant.
I sat down to order the dish. Jacques sat next to me. After the waiter took the order, Jacques tapped the table and looked at me with a silly smile.
I tilted my head, looked at Jacques, and asked, "Why are you looking at me?"
"Happy. Why don't I have a sister while Opal does? How great if my mother gave birth to a sweet little sister like you!"
Jacques complained.
Then, Jane said, "Kelly, I heard that your husband, Mr. Carroll, was back. I'm afraid that your life will be difficult."
"You are not the style he likes."
Jane deliberately emphasized the words, your husband.
Didn't she try to remind Jacques that I was married?
Jacques didn't fall for me.
He just wanted a sister.
"My life is great. He told me to eat eggs this morning," I said.
"Eggs? Do you have nothing but eggs as your breakfast after getting married?"
"And milk."
I answered when the waiter served my dish. I pretended not to understand Jane's sarcasm.
"It is said that Mr. Carroll will send you back to where you were from. What should you, still young, do?"
After that, Jane pretended to be worried and sad.
I found her ridiculous and began to eat.
Jacques put down his fork and knife unhappily. "What's wrong with eggs? I eat eggs in the army every day. Come to me if he sends you away. My mother wants a daughter. If you don't want to live at my home, I'll buy you a big house. I can raise you. A girl like you doesn't eat much."
Well...
Looking at the second steak in front of me, I felt perplexed.
I didn't know whether I should eat this steak now.
Noticing my embarrassment, Jacques instantly corrected himself, "Eat on. I can afford the cost even if you eat a lot."
Jane lowered her head awkwardly and stirred the steak on her plate.
She didn't eat at all.
In my opinion, she looked down upon this restaurant.
After lunch, Jacques bought me a lot of snacks to share with my colleagues.
He reminded me of telling my colleagues that these snacks came from my brother.
I did as Jacques requested, but Jane rolled her eyes at me.
I didn't understand why I became Jane's imaginary rival in love, so I sent a message to Jacques. "It seems your future doesn't like me."
Jacques replied: "Not my future girlfriend. She is a gold digger."
I replied: "Her mother has connections. Marrying her will be helpful to you!"
Jacques: "Do I need those connections?"
Jacques might not need those connections. After work, I got in the car at the door of the studio.
I was surprised to find Carroll in the car.
"What are you thinking about?" Carroll asked.
"When will you kick me out? Everyone thinks you will divorce me. By the way, Mr. Carroll, what kind of woman did you like before?"
"What?" Carroll's pupils constricted slightly.
I took out my mobile phone, looked for the photos of those female celebrities, and pointed at one sexy girl. "This?"
Carroll said, "No."
Then, I pointed at one aloof girl and asked, "This?"
"No!" His tone became impatient.
"How about this?"
No! Did Carroll like innocent girls?
Carroll took out his mobile phone, turned on the camera, and took a photo of me. "This."
"Well, you can't cancel the order now."
With a satisfied smile, I said, "If you did, I would become a stray cat. You will be guilty of abandoning me."
"Do you consider me a breeder?" Carroll shook his head helplessly.
"Yes, yes!" I didn't deny this metaphor. Looking out of the window, I asked, "Aren't we going home?"
"To Brown Mansion. Old Madame Brown and Nathan were buried for one night, so we should visit them today."
His tone was cold. The wooden bracelet in his hand brought a good fragrance into the car, so the atmosphere became weird.
A visit? I would rather think that Carroll was ready to stir up trouble there.
