Chapter 74

"However, your uncle got his retribution! His career will not be so smooth in the future." Speaking, Harris handed his phone to me. There were news about the showbiz on the phone.  "David Dated a Married Woman in the Middle of the Night!" "David's Romance!" "David's Past!" ... Every piece of news was written passionately.  They could ruin the reputation and career of my uncle.  The consequence of this ruin was that those brands disowned David. His movies and dramas were banned online.  Based on a conservative estimate, David would lose hundreds of millions of dollars. "Hundreds of millions?" I returned the phone to Harris. "Isn't this revenge too cruel?" "Cruel? He can earn this amount of money with an endorsement." Harris didn't take this amount of money seriously. Looking at the tightly shut door of the study, he sighed, "Carroll is very good to you. It's been a long time since he took revenge on someone personally." I tilted my head and looked at the door with a sweet smile. "He is the best man in the world." Afer that, I knocked on the door with a pile of snacks in my arms. The fake death game was still on, so Carroll had to finish most of his work in the study. I poked my head out and placed the snacks on the desk.  With a cold expression, Carroll was staring at the computer screen. It seemed he met some difficulties. At the sight of me, he changed his expression, "Gluttony." "Harris bought them for me. Are you hungry? Would you like some?" When I asked, a bag of biscuits was opened by me.  According to my impression, Carroll seldom ate snacks. To be precise, he seldom ate food. His diet wasn't normal at all.  With the wish that my only family could live longer, I started to feed Carroll from today on. Carroll took the biscuit and ate it gracefully. He ate fast, but his manners were elegant.  Tsk, tsk, how could he remain so handsome when eating?  When I was in a trance, Carroll rubbed my nose dotingly and said, "The little girl has grown up. She knows something about sharing." "One gives, so one gains." Blinking, I sat on his lap. "By the way, Jason said that Jessica asked you out for dinner. Are you interested?" Jessica... That embroidery master? "Yes, but I don't want to go by myself!" I was afraid of death. I just got the offer from Costsley University. I didn't want to go through a horrible trick like David's again. In the future, I wouldn't see strangers alone. "Go get changed. I'll go with you later." Then, Carroll shifted his gaze back on the computer screen. Go with me! He said that he would go with me. Wonderful... I trotted to the cloakroom and put on a fancy dress that made me look rich. The dress was black with a big skirt and small diamonds as the ornament. Then, I ran back to the study. Carroll glanced at me. "There will be a dinner, not a funeral." "Oh." What Carroll meant was that my dress was dull and solemn. I ran back to the cloakroom and put on a sexy tube dress. The dress was short, just above my thighs. "So thinly clad. Don't you feel cold?" I got the hint. Carroll thought that I got too much skin exposed.  So, I ran away to get changed again. This repeated more than a dozen times. A T-shirt and jeans satisfied Carroll in the end. Sitting in the back seat, I looked out of the window and pouted angrily. Carroll still wore a cap as his disguise. Nobody could see the expression on his face. After a while, he poked my cheek with his slender finger. "What is in your mind?" "I don't understand. Why do you buy me many dresses but forbid me to wear them?" I complained. Girls wanted to look pretty. I now had an appointment, but Carroll made me wear a T-shirt and jeans rather than those beautiful dresses.  What a waste! "You can wear them at home for me!" Carroll pulled me into his arms domineeringly. "I'm dead in the eyes of others. Swank will bring you trouble." "You're right." I agreed with the last sentence. The scandal about Jason and me in Costsley was well-known.  It was my bad. Soon, we arrived at the appointed place. Jessica was waiting there. She looked elegant and decent in a black dress.  Judging by appearance, nobody would believe that she was in her fifties.  I sat opposite Jessica, and the light in her eyes dimmed. "I didn't expect that it was a little girl who helped my students out." "Hello, Mrs. Anderson. I'm not a little girl. I'm already 19 years old." Smiling, I felt a chill in the eyes of Carroll beside me. He seemed to be hostile to Jessica. Jessica sensed that hostility too, so she asked me, "Who is he?" "I'm her brother," Carroll said casually. "Did you invite her here to thank her? If yes, you may skip that. Because she tried to help her uncle, David." With an awkward smile, Jessica poured us some coffee. "This gentleman is smart. Where did you learn that embroidery technique? It is supposed to be my exclusive technique, and only my students can learn it from me. Given your age, I think you started the embroidery from little, didn't you?" Did Jessica try to sound me out about Granny Luisa? After a gasp of shock, I said, "I taught myself, Mrs. Jessica. Did you also teach yourself?" I looked at Jessica with doubt.  I became suspicious after David's trick. I felt that Jessica was not a good person. "If so, you are talented. Come, let's eat first." Jessica winked at her assistant who stood next to her. I noticed the red light of a digital recorder flashing in that assistant's pocket. Wasn't it just a technique? Did she want to sue me for it? Unhappy, I pursed my lips. I tugged at the hem of Carroll's clothes and whispered, "I don't think I can eat here." "Let's go to Cheuk Restaurant." Then, Carroll stood up and took my hand to leave. "Miss Kelly, what are you doing?" Jessica came over and stopped me. Carroll answered for me, "You came with a digital recorder. Is that your manner?" "If you need any evidence, I think we can meet in court directly." Jessica turned red in the face. Then, she pointed to her assistant and said, "Who told you to turn on the recorder? Turn it off!" Hearing this, the assistant immediately turned off the recorder and left meekly.  "Sit down, please." Jessica pointed to the seats opposite. "Actually, I want to ask you two about an old friend of mine."
