Chapter 15

Charlotte panicked. Calling the police was bad enough, but why did they have to involve the media too? If the story spread, she would face a huge mess. Gritting her teeth, she finally understood what shooting herself in the foot meant. Right now, she had no choice. She had to treat him. She didn't want to be known for this kind of "fame". It was only a patient, after all. They could go their separate ways once the job was done and the fee paid. Besides, a billion dollars was too big to pass up. With that money, she could buy Amber a luxury villa. After thinking of this, Charlotte snatched Henry's phone. She smiled coolly and said, "I thought about it again. Maybe we should talk about treatment." Henry raised a brow. "Didn't you say you couldn't cure him, Dr. Mandy?" Still smiling, she answered, "I can, as long as the money is right. I'm moody by nature. A moment ago, I was upset, but now I'm fine." She marched into the treatment room and faced Brian. She had been staying outside, hiding her identity. Now that she was stepping inside, she was no longer afraid of being exposed. Brian sat upright on the couch. He could not see, yet his hearing was acute. He heard the doctor stop in front of him. His tone stayed cold, the pressure emanating from him strong. "So you can treat me now?" Charlotte missed the sarcastic hint in his voice. Annoyed, she replied, "Yes! Unless you're dead, I can fix you!" Brian had already lost faith in her skill. He sneered, "Don't brag too much. You might regret it in a minute." She smiled back. "Save the concern!" She sat down, flipped into work mode, and said, "Enough talk. Hand me the chart and all the tests, and tell me how your body is right now." Brian lifted a hand, and Henry rushed over with the files. "Here, Dr. Mandy, everything we have." Charlotte skimmed the chart while Henry said, "He can't see." What? Did she hear that right? Charlotte paused and looked at Brian. "Did you say he can't see?" How was that possible? Last night at the club, his eyes worked fine. He had no trouble tormenting her. Brian showed no interest in explaining further. Charlotte studied him, and she noticed that his gaze did look odd. Unconvinced, she waved a hand before his face. He sensed movement, and that made him frown. In the next second, he caught her wrist. "What are you doing?" Her skin felt smooth and strangely familiar, but Brian didn't dwell on it. Instead, his expression turned colder. Charlotte was startled. "I thought you were blind. How did you catch me so fast?" Brian's voice stayed flat as he said, "I can't see, but my other senses work." She didn't know how to feel about that. After all, she had never imagined he would have an eye problem. As head of Norman Group, if his blindness was revealed, it would cause an uproar and possibly serious consequences. Still, treating his eyes at least worked out for her because he would never know who she was during the treatment. Steadying herself, she pulled back and said calmly, "Tell me the details." Henry nodded. "Several years ago, someone poisoned him. He survived, but it left lasting damage. Since then, his vision kept failing. Sometimes, he goes completely blind for a while. "Hospitals ruled out injuries and disease. The blindness passes, then his vision returns. Because it's rare, no one wants to risk surgery." Charlotte nodded. The symptoms did surprise her—blindness was usually caused by retina issues, eye disease, or optic-nerve damage. Brian's eyes looked fine, yet he lost his vision with seemingly no other cause. She was intrigued, which was why she had accepted David's case. For now, she kept silent, reading every record and test. Henry watched her focus and stepped back, nervous but hopeful. He truly believed in her skill. Every expert had failed, so she was their last chance.
