Listen to the wind
“Are you okay?” Leon's soft velvet voice rang in my ears, but there was so much noise mixed in that it was some time before I could distinguish what he was saying. My heart beat faster, my thoughts were confused, and something was pressing heavily on my chest, making it difficult to breathe.
“Emily, are you listening?” Leon asked anxiously.
I was still unable to answer him. The confusion of light was blinding me, and the clamour of voices in my ears was increasing. There was thunder and lightning, and the sound of dripping rain, and the sound of the wind. The sounds were all mingled together, and poured into my brain like a strong cord of hemp.
I felt dizzy, and my body seemed ready to give way at any moment. Leon held my back with his strong hands, and kept calling my name in my ear.
“We need to take her to her room to rest!” Anna's voice blew away the confusion of my mind like a clean wind. Even a little wind would have given me at least a little time to breathe properly.
