My Decisions
I hid behind a curtain and watched through the gap as everything went on outside the house. A group of guards in masks and black armour surrounded William, and one of the leaders drew his sword and pointed it at William, saying something. I saw William take from his bosom a badge that glittered with gold, and shake it before the man. The man immediately laid aside his sword and dismounted quickly, and then the other guardsmen leaped from their horses and bowed in unison to William.
William spoke to the group of guards, after which the group rode away. My troubled heart suddenly relaxed. It was not till William came in from outside the house, with a gloomy face, that he spoke to me.
"Emily, I want to talk to you!"
" said William, in his usual calm tone, as we came to a little brook behind the cottage, and he gazed at the slow-flowing stream before him.
"It looks like Leon is about to win!"
