Chapter 1259
Kyle's expression changed rapidly as he listened to Adam's words.
He took a swift step forward, grabbed Adam by the collar, and angrily shouted, "Did you poison Zoe?!"
Adam remained calm and looked directly at Kyle. He explained, "To prevent traitors, everyone who joins Secret is administered a slow-acting poison. If anyone dares to betray Secret, the poison will be activated, and they won't live for more than three hours."
Zoe, being a member of Secret, was not exempt.
Rory was an expert in poisons.
Even without direct contact with Zoe, he could trigger the poison within her.
Kyle could not believe what he was hearing. He never thought that Secret would have this rule.
He had subjected Zoe to numerous examinations over the years, and there had never been any signs of poisoning.
With no time to spare, Kyle raised his hand, and his bodyguards immediately understood, handing him a gun.
Kyle gripped the firearm, aiming it directly at Rory, and demanded, "Rory, hand over the antidote!"
Rory raised an eyebrow and replied, "Sure, give Zoe to me, and I'll give her the antidote."
His eyes narrowed dangerously, Kyle retorted, "That's impossible!"
"In that case, you can watch her die before your eyes!" Rory taunted.
Rory checked the time and offered a reminder. "You have two hours and twenty-five minutes left until Zoe succumbs to the poison."
"Kyle, you have time to consider this carefully. I'm not in a hurry."
Without him finishing his word, Kyle pulled the trigger, and a bullet was shot at Rory’s side.
“Rory!”
Rory did not flinch and did not show any fear. Instead, he laughed and spoke, “Kyle, don’t forget that Zoe’s life is in my hands now.”
Kyle gritted his teeth. “If Zoe has any permanent damage, don’t you wish to leave this island alive!”
“That’ll depend on whether you are willing to let her get permanent damage to her body.”
Before Kyle could respond, a servant inside the villa rushed out, shouting, "Sir, please come quickly to see Madam. Her condition is deteriorating."
"Zoe!"
Kyle panicked, did not waste another moment arguing with Rory, and sprinted back to the villa.
Inside the bedroom, Zoe looked like she had just been pulled out of the water, drenched in a cold sweat, and her face was as pale as a sheet of paper.
"Ky."
Zoe's consciousness was becoming hazy.
"Zoe! How are you feeling?" Kyle held onto Zoe's hand, noticing it was even colder.
Zoe squinted her eyes, her gaze unfocused. "Ky, I feel so terrible and in so much pain."
"Zoe, hang in there. Everything will be fine."
Kyle held Zoe tightly, his heart aching so much that he could hardly breathe.
If he could, he would willingly take the poison himself, endure the pain, anything to spare Zoe from suffering even a bit.
Kyle trembled as he touched Zoe's face. "Zoe, Zoe."
"Ky, why are you crying?"
Zoe wanted to touch his face, but the pain in her body had left her with no strength.
She wanted to cry but forced a faint smile, saying, "Ky, don't cry. I don't want to see you cry."
"Zoe."
Kyle hugged Zoe tightly, tears flowing uncontrollably.
In all these years, Kyle had never felt this way before.
He had never shed tears for moments of emotion, happiness, or sadness, but now, holding the person he loved dearly, watching her in so much pain while he was utterly helpless.
Kyle had never despised his powerlessness as he did at this moment.
