Chapter 101 65: Married To The Gateman
She softly tapped his hand and groaned, diving her teeth into her lower lips. She knew she had once given birth, but it was safe to say that she had completely forgotten how it felt at the time. And now, she felt as though her soul was being driving forcefully out of her body. She tapped his shoulder again, "Mujaheed, you need to wake up, please." She tapped his shoulder aggressively and he immediately jerked up and held her shoulders.
"Fareeda what is it? Are you alright?" He asked, and she shook her head at him. He immediately pulled himself down from the bed and held got their already packed bag. He watched the way she was wincing in pain and rushed toward her, "It's alright, we're going to the hospital now." He helped her changed into another clothes and together with him supporting her, Mujaheed got them into the car and he immediately drove to the hospital.
It was already dawn, but for once Mujaheed wasn't amazed by the sunrise in London. The sky had beautiful colors on it but that wasn't what was getting to him, it was the painful sounds coming from Fareeda that was at the back of the car and he wished he could take her pain away. He wished he would make her feel better. Maybe ease it down a bit for her. She immediately got taken to the labor room when they arrived and Mujaheed kept pacing to and fro in the long white corridor of the hospital.
They came to London last month before he wanted her to get the best treatment there is. He could clearly hear her crying voice from where he was and it was self control that stopped him from getting to that room and helping her in any way he could. She heard as the muslim pro app in his pocket called the Adzhan for Fajr Salah. He brought the phone out and didn't know who he should call, her father or his father? Or may be Aunty Zainab that had her now one month baby boy now? He should call Nana, she will have everyone informed.
He called her and when she picked the call, her voice was clogged with sleep. "Nana, Fareeda is in labor right now! I don't know what to do. I mean...just let everyone know, okay? We should all pray for her safe delivery." He ended the call the moment he heard Nana's gasp and he walked over to the bathroom, performed his ablution and he got a praying mat from a muslim couple and prayed in the corridor. He didn't know what he should say, all he knew was he wanted her to give birth healthily and safely. His baby too, he silently prayed they will all make it safe and sound.
He heard her cries, so loud and painful that he wished he could go in and ease her pain. Not knowing what to do, Mujaheed felt tears running down his cheeks. He remembered the day Muhaseen was born. They were both so excitedly and even though Fareeda was in so much pain, she kept tryin to smile at him and console him, telling him that he shouldn't be frightened. Rather, he should be excited that their baby would finally be with them. At long last and she will stay there forever.
They were eager to see the baby then, but today they were both frightened about what would be of their child. Mujaheed cried into his palms as he thought about the possibility of Allah punishing him for what he did to Muhaseen, if Allah punished him he didn't know what he would do. He there the possibility of that turning out to be true was so huge that his whole body shook with fear and he kept praying for Allah to have mercy on him and ease the delivery for Fareeda.
He walked back to the door and sat on the waiting chair, anxiously tapping his feet on the floor, he was waiting for the result and dreading one as well. The doctor rushed out of the room, "She has given birth safely. We're going to have her transferred to the operation room for the surgery now. You can see the baby shortly. But first you have to sign on the papers the nurse will bring to you now." He nodded his head at him, feeling as everything was slowly draining out of his soul.
He watched as they rolled an almost lifeless Fareeda on a bed while they transferred her into the operation room. He wanted to follow them, but the nurse that called his name made him turn back and he saw the documents in her hands, "She will be fine, won't she?" He asked with a weak voice that was at the verge of breaking into tears and she smiled at him before she nodded her head.
"She will be fine. You just have to sign here so we can quickly process the surgery, sir. You'll see the baby in a short while." Mujaheed collected the papers and signed with shaky hands. He wanted her to be fine, he really do. Even though they told him she will be fine, some parts of his heart still had doubts and he had to follow the nurse to the operation room. Of course he wasn't allowed, but knowing he was staying as close as he could gave him a sense of relief and he couldn't wait for the time she would be out of this room.
Maybe she will smile at him and ask him how her baby was, right? Yes, he remembered. He was supposed to be there to see the baby, he looked between the pathway and the operation that had a red light on its top. He wanted to see the baby but he felt he would love it more if they saw it first together with Fareeda. That would only be fair as well. He went there and told the nurse to keep the baby safe, he'd see it when she woke up.
?
Fareeda felt as though her life being brought back to her slowly and she she began to feel conscious of her surrounding. She wondered what had happened to her that she felt so weak without being able to move even a single limb of hers, her thought wandered back to her baby and she slowly moved her hand to feel her stomach but felt it's empty. And that was when everything began to come back to her. She remembered the pain, the ache and how she was rushed into the hospital by Mujaheed.
Her eyes slowly began to open and when she opened then and saw that she could see the white ceiling above her, she wondered if she had given birth with her glass on her face. Weakly, she titled her head and she saw a baby's crib. She wanted to sit up, where was Mujaheed? But before she made any move, she heard the shrilling sound of Nana's voice. Wait, she was in London even yesterday night, wasn't she? How did she hear Nana's voice then?
"Abba, she's up! Ya Mujaheed, look, she's awake!" From the way Nana sounded, Fareeda knew she was trying so hard to stop herself from shouting at the pitch of her voice, maybe the doctors had warned them not to speak in loud tones.
Mujaheed rushed to the bed and he helped her sit upright while she rested her back on the pillow and she flashed them all a weary smile. Baba, Aunty Zainab, little baby Fareed, Asma'u, Nenne, Dahlia, Nana, they were all staring back at her with nothing but tired smiles and she knew wherever they were, they all must've been tired. "Where am I?" She asked with a smile as she turned to Mujaheed that stood by her side, smiling brightly at her.
"You're in London, Fareeda." Baba answered and they all chuckled at the confused look on her face.
"But how, Mujaheed? Wasn't it just yesterday at night when you brought me to the hospital? How did they make it here?" She asked while she held his hand, because she felt maybe she was just seeing an illusion.
"You've been asleep for two days now, Fareeda. They made it here a day after you gave birth..." She immediately shook her head that felt as though it were a stone.
"Yes, I gave birth. Where's the baby?" She asked, and he smiled at her. He walked over to the crib and lifted up a baby, her eyes immediately got swelled by her tears and she watched intensely as he walked toward her, carefully holding the baby in his hand. She waited until he sat down bead her on the bed and with her hands stretched out, he placed down baby in her hands and immediately after she gasped, her tears found way to her cheeks.
"She's a girl, as beautiful as our Muhaseen used to be, Fareeda." He uttered with a voice choked with emotions and Fareeda lifted the baby and placed her on her chest. She broke into tears when she felt that tingling sensation of being a mother again, that warmth and that happiness of feeling a small human against your body, and before she was done being sentimental, she heard Asma'u's excited voice again.
"A surprise, Ya Fareeda. Allah decided to double your blessing this time." She immediately turned to look at Mujaheed and he nodded his head at her with tears in his eyes. She watched unbelievably as Asma'u placed the other baby in her hand and she burst into joyful tears. "That's the boy, Ya Fareeda." Asma'u uttered and Fareeda clenched her eyes shut as she hugged them to her chest.
Mujaheed stood on the bed as she watched her carried their babies, he couldn't believe that when Allah decided to forgive him, he doubled his blessing as well. Fareeda cried to her satisfaction and she handed the boy to him. "What's their names?"she asked and they stared at the babies faces with smiles on their faces.
"The girl should be named after our dear Muhaseen, what do you think? And for the boy..." He trailed off, because he had never thought Allah will bless him this way, never had he imagined.
Dahlia chirped in from where she sat, "Why don't we call him Muhsin?" They all turned to look at her and everyone nodded their head with approval.
Mujaheed said the iqamah in their ears and he successfully named them. They took the babies back to their cribs and Asma'u immediately hugged her, "Congratulations, Ya Fareeda, you did an incredible job. We're so proud of you." Fareeda chuckled before she patted her back and when they broke their hug, Dahlia came forward and hugged her as well. Aunty Zainab hugged her too and she smiled when Fareeda played with Fareed.
"This boy is my twin brother, Aunty Zainab." They all chuckled at that.
Nenne came and hugged her warmly, "Welldone, Fareeda am, you've done a good job. We have to bathe you so well like the last time."
Fareeda whined and shook her head, "Nenne please, Wallahi my body can't take that hot water anymore, please." They all laughed at her and Nenne squeezed her ear softly.
"It's because I did that bathe to yo when you gave birth to Muhaseen that you're able to give birth to twins this time. I'll go back home now before you're discharged and get the hot water ready." Fareeda only pouted her lips because she knew arguing with Nenne was pointless.
She smiled when Baba came over to her and he hugged her before he kissed her forehead. "May Allah bless your life, Fareeda. I'm so proud of the woman you've become. May Allah bless their lives and give you the ability to upbring them according to the teachings of Islam." Tears sprang back to her cheeks and she smiled lovingly.
"I love you, Baba. I love you soo much. Thank you for not giving up on me." He smiled and fondled her head before Nana came over and before she hugged her, she pointed at her eyes.
"I know you're thinking how it was possible for you to give birth with your glasses, right? Ya Fareeda your glasses aren't on your eyes, you undergo a surgery and it's successful, you're seeing us now with your natural eyes, Ya Fareeda. So it's better you stop crying, because those eyes are still babies now, take care of them."
With a shocked expression, Fareeda turned to look at Mujaheed and he nodded his head before he smiled at her. She felt as Nana hugged her and even though she wanted to stop herself from crying, Fareeda knew she couldn't do that. She burst into tears because this was the last thing she expected could ever happen to her.
"How did this happen?" She asked, looking at them with tears rolling down her cheeks. "How did this happen? Can I see the babies again? I want to be sure if I'm seeing them with my eyes, Ya Allah." She kept rubbing her palms on her face as if she wasn't sure if she was really seeing everything now with her eyes.
They chuckled at how surprised she was and nodded their head at her then their eyes wandered to Mujaheed that stood there looking at her with all the love in his eyes. "We all gave up on your eyes, Fareeda, including myself. We thought you'll live on glasses for the rest of your life, but he didn't. He looked for the best ophthalmologist and they suggested you get a surgery and they had some of the veins that the bleach affected repaired. You'll still be using the glass for some time before your eyes adjust and they'll keep you on medication for three weeks to make sure of the condition of your eyes." Alhaji explained and even though she cleared her tears but more gushed down her eyes.
She looked at Mujaheed and widened her eyes, "Come, give me a hug, Mujaheed." Her lips trembled as she said that and Mujaheed flicked back his tears before he went over to the bed and warmly hugged her. She broke into tears and rested her head on his shoulders, "I don't know what to say to you, Mujaheed. I'm short of word, Thank you so much."
He tightened his hold on her and felt as she cried against his body. "Shhh...you shouldn't cry about this, Your Highness."
"I told you, I'm no royalty." She laughed with tears on her face and they broke apart when Baba cleared his throat.
"We will go home and rest for a while, Asma'u will stay here with you." They all stood up at once as if that's what they were all waiting for. They watched until they left the room and Asma'u quickly stood up, "I'll go to the cafeteria to get something to eat. Call me incase you need anything."
Fareeda chuckled when the door closed behind her, "You're one shameless in-law, Your highness. You're shoed your in-laws away, who does that?"
He threw his head back and laughed, "I told you that I'm no royalty, stop calling me that. These angels here, are the real royalties." He brought the babies back and sat down holding Muhsin while she held Muhaseen in her hands and they leaned in at the same time and kissed their foreheads.
"I've never imagined they were two inside my womb, how did I not feel it?" She asked and when tears began to pool her eyes, he immediately shook his head at her.
"Fareeda, you should stop crying already, okay? We should just thank Allah, he's the one that blessed you this way." She nodded her head and felt as he kissed her forehead again.
She smiled warmly, "Have I ever told you how much I love this forehead kiss? No one has ever kissed me on my forehead but you, until today that Baba did. It always gives me an unexplainable feeling and the first day you kissed my forehead, I wanted to live there forever."
"But you told me not to kiss your forehead again. You went like, 'I appreciate it when you hug me to console me, but don't do that again. Don't hug me also, don't kiss my forehead, I don't like it...' Yen yen yen. So finally, you've told me the truth, right?" She threw her head back and laughed, wondering when Mujaheed began to speak the way he just did.
"What is yen yen yen?" She asked amidst laughter and he rolled his eyes at her the way she did and that made her laughed again, "Mujaheed! What are you doing?! Ya Allah."
"You said that once and when I asked you, you didn't tell me the meaning of it. And this? I'm just doing what you're so used to doing, nothing else." He said, and the way she was laughing so happily was enough to last him a lifetime.
She shook her head unbelievably at him, "That time I was so surprised, I've never thought that you will turn out to be the way you did. Because the day I got married to you, I thought you'd be the hardest man to deal with, we will fight all day and whatsoever. But then I got the complete opposite, I found you soft, teasing, loving and it was so hard at the time not to fall for you. And whenever you said 'I'll never let go you, Fareeda.' I used to feel that to the deepest core of my soul, because it's the assurance I've never asked for and you kept your promise until today."
"After getting a hold of what I loved so much, I'd rather lose myself than let go fo you, Fareeda. I've always been in love with you, and I'll always love you for the rest of my life." He soft soothingly, flashing her that look that always melted her soul. And when he tried to lean in and kiss her, the babies at the same time burst into a shrill of cries and instead of them to look after them and figure out the way to feed them, they all burst out laughing. With their head thrown behind as they laughed at the good timing of their new bundles of joy, Fareeda stared at him and knew that she would forever love this man. She thought the day Nana told her that she had gotten married to him, that day would be an opener to her grief and unending hardships. But it turned out to be her biggest blessing. And today, she will proudly say she was glad that she got married to the gateman.
The End!!!
