Chapter 37 23: B
"No, what happened, Nana? Did you perhaps make my favorite today?" He asked with a hint of laughter and he knew of her strictness when it came to him taking his meal at the right time.
"I cooked for you despite knowing you weren t there. I wanted to be loyal and tried eating your white rice with okra but do you know what? I nearly vomited, I felt nauseous, how do you eat that concoction?"
He laughed as he walked into the hotel that had a restaurant attached, 'Soli Centre he read the name in his mind and waked further into the spacious building. "I'll teach you how to eat it once I'm back in Taraba. Do you know what this place is called, Nana?" He laughed at the name, because he had never heard of something like that before.
"You better eat to your fill, I don t want you to lose weight, Ya Mujaheed. No, what is it? Something like Nana Fatima Zarah?" That made him laugh.
"I ve almost forgotten what your real name is, should I be calling you Fatima or Zarah? Choose one amongst them. No, it s called Soli Centre, what s the meaning of Soli?"
"My name is Nana, that s what Nenne loves calling me with. Soli? Can you ask for us? Those Katsina people are weird." They laughed at the same time and they kept conversing until Mujaheed placed his order which she chose for him before she ended the call, saying she didn't want him to be laughing in front of people lest they thought of him as a newbie in the town.
"Thank you." He smiled warmly at the waitress and began to eat his food while he thought. Even though days had passed without him seeing Fareeda, he was still angry at what she did. He was still furious and her hatred was filling every nook and cranny of his heart. He had always imagined the worst she could do, but not even for once had leaving home crossed his mind.
"I wonder what those two are up to, Man. Look at how he kept treating her as if she wasn t a woman he took care of his desires with." He heard one of the men that sat on the other table spoke with distaste aimed at the man they were talking about.
One of them answered again, "I wonder why she s still living in a hotel with him, didn't she know her worth or at least have some self respect left? You weren't here yesterday, you would ve seen the way he insulted her in front of everyone."
"It seems like she s a mistress and she didn t know he has a wife here already. Something about her going to his house without him knowing..." He let his words trailed off and shrugged off his shoulders, "I heard them fighting over there before I came here, and the way it looked, that guy could really beat her if she frustrates him more. Because she looks like the type that never keeps shut."
Mujaheed immediately stood up, he wasn t sure if they were the one, but he had to go and see for himself. He didn't lift a feet when he heard her voice. And that was what he needed, he didn t have to turn to make sure it was her, her voice was something he could forever recognize. She was crying and shouting at the same time. "Don t you dare touch me again! If you lay a finger on me, Adam..." He ran to the spot her voice was coming coming, he didn t have enough patience to wait.
....
Upon reaching there, he met her flung to the ground without her glasses while her hands flew in search of something to hold onto. He looked up at Adam that had his belt in his hand as he laid it on her, "We spoke about this yesterday with you, Fareeda! I told you not to go to my house, do you know how much trouble you've caused by just going there? How many times do I have to tell you to stay away from my wife at all cost?!" He thundered and slashed the belt on her back while she cried and stood up, yet she stumbled on her skirt and tumbled to fall down but Mujaheed was quick at holding her.
He wanted to lay his heart out and have the anger subside, because he was sure if he reacted upon what he was feeling now, nothing could stop him from taking Adam s life. She held tightly onto his arms as she cried but stubbornly wiped her tears away, "Will you please look for my glass around? I can t see without it, and I need to see this son of a bitch to make him regret what he s doing to my now."
Mujaheed looked at how tightly she clutched his arm and he decided that whatever he was going to do to her would wait. As he looked around, people were just looking at him. The men sympathetic and the ladies angry and some shouting at their boyfriends to go to her aid. Blinded with rage, Adam didn't recognize Mujaheed at first glance.
"Who are you?! Let go of her right now or I'll deal with you both!" He thundered, and Mujaheed pulled Fareeda and made her sit down. She held his hand when he was about to leave.
"Will you please give me my glass? If it s broken then I don t know what I'll do." He didn t speak, rather, he tore her hand away from his and walked back to where Adam stood, fuming and waiting to see who had the guts to rescue her from him.
"And who are you?! I dare you to stay away from what doesn t concern unless you want to be taken to the hospital together with her!" He threatened, and Mujaheed looked up at him with the most enigmatic expression Adam had ever seen on his face. He was utterly shocked, how did he come here? They made sure they didn't leave any trace of where Fareeda was, then how did he come here? He rushed to where Fareeda was seated as she had her eyes closed firmly with her body trembling with her cries and forcefully yanked off her veil, holding a chunk of her hair painfully into his hands.
He titled her head backward and she yelped, "What do you think you ve just done? Tell me! How dare you call that gateman you have as a husband here in Katsina?! How dare you do that to me?!" He clamored and threw her over on the ground, making her fall on Mujaheed s feet. At this point, he knew he couldn t control himself no matter how much he wanted to.
And he stomped to where Adam was, the first thing he did was made sure he punched him so hard in his stomach that if he was taken to the hospital, the doctors will have to make sure they performed an x-ray on him to see whether he had a few organs damaged. Adam groaned in pain and fell on the ground while Mujaheed hopped on him and kept throwing punched all over his face while he shouted, "How dare you!!! What do you freaking think of yourself?! Who the hell do you think you are, Adam?!"
Her whole body trembled when all she could do was hear the sound of punched Mujaheed kept throwing at his face despite the way Adam kept screaming for help and the people begging Mujaheed to let him go. But seeing the way Mujaheed was furious, no one dared walk up to help him. He kept punching him until he saw that he had no energy left to beg for his life before he lifted his weight off him and stood as two men helped Adam on his feet.
He painfully pointed at Fareeda that was unable to do anything apart from tremble with tremor and fear and too much pain that was threatening to take her life away. "And you, a whore like you doesn t deserve a man like him in your life. I know for sure that he is a gateman and you look down on him because he s nothing, but I had to do all I can to make sure I've separated you from him, and I've finally succeeded. Since the day you told me to break up, I did that with you. I only begged for forgiveness because your worthless body deserved the torture I gave to you in this state! I've finally ruined your life, you scumbag and you have nothing left! Not that billionaire of your father nor this poor husband you have over here! And I'll tell you something today, you think you re beautiful? You re not! You re nothing but a piece of trash that deserves to be discarded after use! You re worthless, the only good thing about you is the money that idiot you have as a father gave you in abundance and after knowing you, I'm certain about why he hates you so much! No one loves you because you don t deserve to be loved, you worthless bitch!" His lips got closed with the most painful punch Mujaheed had ever laid on his face.
He looked into his eyes and they were a shade of blood, the most dangerous eyes he had ever seen in his life. He lifted one finger to warn him, "One more word, just one more word at her and I'll make sure they dig your grave early tomorrow morning, you worthless son of a bitch!" He roared, and all the people there shook with fear of who the man standing there was. His voice alone unnerved them, not to talk about the anger dripping from every nook and cranny of his soul.
Painfully, Adam threw his head back and laughed. "You think of yourself as her husband, right?" He disgustingly pointed at where Fareeda painfully cried with her head rested on her knees on the ground. "I'll take you one secret, don t use protection on her, she's tasteless even when it s raw-" he didn t wait for him to finish what he was saying as he knock him off on the ground and all the could hear was the sound of Mujaheed s punches on his face and it took only the security guards of the place to pull Adam away from him.
He watched as they put Adam in the car and drove out, to where he would love to be a hospital. He came to where she was slumped on the ground and just one look at her, Mujaheed wished he could vent all his anger on her. Beat her until she couldn't move a limb and after that, he can take her to the hospital himself. But he couldn t do that to her, at least not when everyone is watching.
