Chapter 4 Mistaken Marriage Proposal Target
Even though Yolanda was extremely surprised and couldn't figure out who this nobleman who came to propose to her was, she still let the compliments from her neighbors get to her head. "Rest assured, everyone. When I get married, I'll definitely give out wedding favors to all the neighbors. I also won't forget the care you guys have shown to my entire family."
Yolanda was a student at the film academy and often had the opportunity to meet wealthy young men from affluent families. As a result, she naturally assumed that one of these young men had fallen head over heels for her.
After all, even in the film academy, her beauty was considered the cream of the crop on campus.
She glimpsed proudly at Jennifer beside her.
At this moment, surrounded by these dazzling sceneries, she instantly felt that her status and position had gotten much higher than Jennifer's.
"How does it feel, Jennifer, to be stomped under my feet like this? You never imagined this day would come, did you?"
Beside herself with joy, Yolanda sneered, "Are you infuriated? However, it's useless to be mad now. After all, I'm about to soar to great heights and become out of your league."
Jennifer raised an eyebrow slightly, unimpressed.
She had never cared to form connections with the powerful and influential. Only Stephanie and Yolanda would care about that.
"Ms. Gabel."
While they were talking, the older gentleman who came to propose marriage had already approached the two sisters.
In his hands was a small, exquisitely-crafted gift box.
"This is the engagement ring our employer has carefully chosen for you. We hope you will like it," he informed.
While speaking, he opened the gift box reverently.
As soon as the box lid was lifted, the crowd gasped in amazement.
"Wow!"
The tacit exclamation resonated as everyone present became dumbstruck.
Inside the gift box lay a crystal-clear diamond that looked like it had been soaked and washed in tears, reaching the pinnacle of purity. Just a single glance was enough to captivate anyone's soul.
"How beautiful..."
Yolanda felt her breath totally taken away by this diamond.
Even Jennifer, who had never been infatuated with jewelry, felt a surreal sense of bewilderment at this moment.
"Oh my goodness! This diamond ring is absolutely stunning!"
"The diamond is huge! Yoyo, who exactly is your fiancé? This is amazing!"
Yolanda's heart was pounding with excitement.
Such a dazzling and luxurious diamond ring was something she wouldn't even dare to dream of.
"Quick, try on the diamond ring."
At the side, Stephanie also couldn't wait any longer and urged her daughter impatiently.
Still, Yolanda continued to feign modesty. "But I still don't know who went through so much effort to propose to me!"
Despite saying that, she had already reached out to that captivating diamond ring, unable to help herself.
Unexpectedly, the older gentleman moved his hand that was holding the gift and dodged her. "I'm sorry, Ms. Yolanda Gabel. It seems you've misunderstood something."
"Hmm?"
Yolanda furrowed her brows.
What does that mean?
To her horror, in the next moment, the older gentleman pushed the gift box in his hands toward Jennifer respectfully and lowered his head slightly to say, "Ms. Gabel, our employer instructed that this diamond ring was specially made for you. Therefore, it must be personally handed to you without passing through anyone else's hands, even if it's your own sister."
With that lone statement, everyone was left flabbergasted.
No one had expected this massive marriage proposal procession wasn't for Yolanda but for Jennifer!
Yolanda was stunned.
Her pupils constricted all of a sudden.
Concurrently, her face flushed with mortification as a ton of emotions swept over her non-stop.
How could this be!
Beside Yolanda, Stephanie was equally thunderstruck.
As it turned out, Jennifer was the true proposal target.
The woman of the hour stood there at a loss for what to do while her mind buzzed in confusion.
What... What's going on here?
So, this grand and magnificent marriage proposal procession is actually for me?
Is this a prank?
I just got out of a marriage yesterday, and this happened today...
She doubted she had such good luck with the opposite sex.
Jennifer took two steps back cautiously, maintaining a safe distance from the strangers. "I don't know any of you at all."
"Exactly. You guys have clearly mistaken her for someone else!"
In a fit of frustration, Yolanda grabbed the older gentleman's arm and pointed to her own nose, exclaiming, "Look carefully! I am Yolanda Gabel. It's me!"
"I'm aware you're Ms. Yolanda Gabel, but the person we're looking for is Ms. Jennifer Gabel, and the one our employer is proposing to is also Ms. Jennifer Gabel."
Jennifer stiffened, lost for words.
Which lunatic exactly is this man referring to?
Why would he actually want to marry me out of the blue?
Yolanda couldn't believe it. "How could that be! How could it be this woman?"
She was utterly blinded by jealousy as she pointed at Jennifer's nose and shrieked, "This woman is nothing but a harlot! Tell me, who exactly is your employer? Who is he? How dare he fancy such a promiscuous, shameless woman!"
The older gentleman's face immediately turned frigid when he heard that. "Ms. Yolanda Gabel, please show some respect for our future Mrs. Griffin. Otherwise, don't blame me for being impolite."
He exuded an imposing presence with an overwhelming sense of intimidation.
With just one sentence, Yolanda's arrogance was completely extinguished.
She stomped her foot in anger. "You guys have truly gone too far!"
In the meantime, surrounding them, the neighbors gradually shifted their attitudes from the initial flattery to mockery and ridicule.
Upon thinking about the extravagant betrothal gifts that filled the house, as well as that custom-made diamond ring, Yolanda couldn't help but shed tears in frustration.
This misunderstanding felt like a massive slap to her face.
It was hurtful and humiliating.
"All you do is cry and make a fool of yourself. Get back in the house now!"
Annoyed, Stephanie dragged the sobbing Yolanda into the house.
As she passed by the pile of Jennifer's belongings at the doorway, she kicked it hard and yelled, "You wretched woman! Don't you ever think about setting foot in this house again!"
Christopher also shot Jennifer a conflicted look.
He shook his head in disapproval, sighed, and turned to enter the house, closing the door behind him.
The moment the door closed, Jennifer's heart clenched tightly.
At the end of the day, she was still kicked out of the house by her own biological father.
"Ms. Gabel, it seems that my arrival has caused you quite a bit of trouble. I'm genuinely sorry."
The older gentleman apologized to her sincerely.
Jennifer sniffled and shook her head with a bitter smile. "It's all right. There was never a place for me in this family to begin with. It'll be the same no matter if you come or not."
Ever since her mother left, this place was no longer her home.
"Excuse me, sir. May I have a word with you?"
"Sure, Ms. Gabel. Follow me."
On the ground floor, at the front of the Bentley convoy...
"Ms. Gabel, my name is Simon Wright, and I am Mr. Griffin's personal butler. If you don't mind, you can also call me Simon, just like Mr. Griffin does."
"Who?"
Jennifer was startled.
Her guard rose at once as alarm bells rang loudly within her. "Mr. Griffin? Which Mr. Griffin?"
"Xavier. Xavier Griffin."
She was bereft of speech.
It's really him!
