Car accident.
Anna Green’s face turned white in an instant. Without a word, she bolted for the door. Sandra Lopez called after her, but Anna didn’t even look back.
The hospital was all cold, harsh fluorescence and that overpowering smell of disinfectant. The hallway buzzed with people, all with tense faces.
Hospitals were never a place for good news.
Clenching her fists tight, Anna forced herself to push through the wave of dizziness and panic as she entered.
"Did you hear? They just brought in a middle-aged woman from a car accident, happened in the old downtown. Sounds pretty horrific..."
"Yeah, I was on the emergency call. The scene was nuts—blood everywhere. They said the truck dragged her like ten, fifteen meters. No clue if she’s gonna make it."
"Dragged that far? Doesn’t sound good at all..."
A few nurses in pink uniforms walked past Anna, chatting in hushed, worried tones.
