Chapter 219
It was freezing—bone-chilling cold.
Anna shivered violently, only snapping out of it when she spotted that tall figure threading his way down the ladder with steady strides.
In a panic, she pinched her thigh hard. The jolt of pain had her sucking in a breath—this was no dream. It was real. She'd run all the way to this remote mountain village, but Julian still found her.
If now's not the time to run, then when?
She didn't even glance at the soup in hand. With a clatter, the bowl hit the ground as she pushed through the crowd and bolted toward the courtyard. Her forehead broke into a nervous sweat, and she looked every bit like a frightened, desperate rabbit.
"You really think you can run again?"
Anna moved fast, but Julian was even faster.
Seeing her make a break for it, he scoffed and jumped off the last rung, striding after her like he owned the place.
She had a head start and was already quite far, but when she glanced back, the gap between them was closing fast—terrifyingly fast.
