Julian looked half amused, half helpless. This wasn't the reaction he expected, but Anna clearly misunderstood his intent.
Still, he didn't feel like explaining. Instead, he leaned down and stole a kiss—one he wasn't planning on giving up quickly.
It wasn't until Anna's face turned red and her breathing got so erratic it seemed like she might pass out, that Julian finally let her go—reluctantly, to say the least.
"Anna, there's something I want to tell you," his voice low and raspy, with the faint undertone of someone who'd just gotten a taste of something he liked.

It wasn't that she didn't want to reply; the girl was just trying to catch her breath like she'd just run a marathon. She rolled her eyes at him, making it clear she was listening.
Julian didn't get annoyed. He reached out and gave her cheek a little pinch. "Don't overthink it. There's nothing between me and Vera."
Classic. That's what every guy says about the girl he swears is "just a friend."
