When Luke Jordan heard my answer, he opened his arms and pulled me into a tight embrace. "That's wonderful."
I heard him laughing like a child.
A strange sense of ease washed over me, as if his presence alone granted me safety.
Though I clearly knew I didn't love Luke Jordan, being with him felt comfortable.
That should be enough.

Luke drove me home first. After I changed clothes, he suggested going out for dinner. But remembering there were still some ingredients in the fridge, I said, "Let's eat at home. I'll cook for you."
"Really?"
Luke looked at me, his eyes filled with disbelief.
I smiled. "Really. Don't worry—I cook well. I won't poison you."
"If it's you who made it, even if it were poison, I'd gladly drink it," Luke said, following me into the kitchen. He rolled up his shirt sleeves and asked, "Is there anything I can help with?"
