The men were all good drinkers, as well as Faye, Eileen, and Elsa. Everyone drained every last drop of their glasses, having a brilliant time.
Lily was the only one who did not touch a single drop of alcohol, sitting aside quietly.
Wilbur looked around at the crowd, his gaze flashing with wistfulness.
Nancy was not there.
Faye saw the look in his eyes and raised her glass. "What's on your mind?"
"Oh, nothing." Wilbur clinked his glass against hers.
Faye chuckled. "I'd better hope so."
She drained the contents of her glass, barely able to contain how smug she was. "Have fun thinking about that."
The meal lasted until a little past ten. Everyone was still chattering away happily, with no intention of leaving.
Just then, Wilbur's phone rang. He picked up a call from Charles, who sounded nothing but anxious again. "They're back, sir! There are more of them this time, with banners and everything, staging a protest!"
