Chapter 1145
Wilbur leaned back on his rocking chair and said, "Sir, I don't think it's good news. My job here is done, so I should go back and rest."
"Just reach out to them, but I won't force you if you don't want to. You call the shots." Then, Albert hung up.
Wilbur was so angry that he cursed.
Albert ordered him around like he was an employee, and the tasks were never ending.
He could not believe he sold himself for the lousy wages of the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense.
Demi and the others did not know what was going on.
They cautiously stood there and watched Wilbur throw a tantrum. They did not dare to breathe because they did not want to anger him. They could not handle Wilbur taking out his anger on them.
Wilbur finally calmed down after a moment. He looked at Demi and the others and said, "Continue doing your job. My nation's ambassador is arriving. Don't mess this up because you can't handle the consequences."
"Yes, sir."
Demi and the others kept that in mind. They sighed in relief at the same time, then bowed and left.
Wilbur looked at the red stream after they left and sighed.
He wondered what trouble awaited him.
However, Albert did say that he could call the shots.
He felt like he should simply refuse to help. No one could punish him for it anyway.
It would be better to go back to Sealake Island.
The spiritual energy of that place was much better than the lousy Manand.
Wilbur scoffed and went upstairs to rest.
Sophie quickly followed him and stood outside to serve him.
Shepard picked up a broom and started to sweep the yard.
It was nighttime.
A team of vehicles arrived at the manor.
Over a dozen special agents got out of their vehicles and started to surround the place in a formation.
Two middle-aged men in suits got out of the vehicle at the center.
One of them was tall and slim with glasses. He looked gentle yet authoritative.
The other one had tan skin. He was frowning like something was troubling him.
They stood at the manor's entrance. Shepard had been waiting for them a long time ago. He welcomed them to the building and led them to Wilbur's room.
Sophie started to make tea for them.
The man with glasses shook Wilbur's hand and greeted, "Hello, Mister Penn. I'm the Dashan Ambassador, Julian Doyle. This is the representative of the Manand president, Lucia."
Wilbur shook hands with them and invited them to take a seat. Wilbur looked at Julian and asked, "What's going on, Mister Ambassador?"
"Mister Penn, we knew about what you did here. Both Dasha and the Manand government are very impressed by your actions."
He rescued the Dashan citizen out of his own will. The Manand government benefited a lot because he got rid of those criminal forces for them. Of course they would be impressed. What else could they do? Criticize him?
"I was just part of my duty. Please be straightforward," said Wilbur.
Lucia frowned and said, "Mister Penn, Manand is in trouble, so we would like to ask for your help. We hope you can say yes."
"Tell me about it," said Wilbur.
Lucia said, "There's a cultivator in my nation. His name is Maddox. This person ruled the Manand underground syndicate for decades. His students infiltrated the military and political circle in recent years. They have become an extreme threat to Manand. Our president would like you to get rid of him."
Wilbur was puzzled. He looked at Shepard and asked, "Do you know this person?"
"I do," replied Shepard while nodding.
Wilbur frowned and asked, "Can't you handle him? Aren't you a Super Sanctuary cultivator?"
Wilbur did not want to help them because the task was lousy.
He wondered why they wanted him to work for them.
Shepard said, "We're equals, but this person owns a precious item, so I'm no match for him."
"A precious item?" Wilbur was intrigued.
