Chapter 2355
At that moment, the other Burke practitioners who were busy engaging Callie in combat were stunned to witness Gerry's instantaneous demise. After a momentary shock, the ten or so members immediately had reddened eyes as thunderous roars erupted from their mouths.
"Young Master!"
"Young Master"
Gerry's sudden death instilled a newfound wariness among them, and they hesitated to continue cornering Callie. Despite their numerical advantage, Severin's strength seemed to deter them from approaching.
At the same time, Callie was displaying signs of fatigue after bearing the brunt of their assault. Her aura was a faltering, and she seemed rather pitiful. Endured an onslaught from a dozen similar-level practitioners was no easy feat.
Just as Callie was starting to struggle, she sensed Severin dealing with Gerry almost too quickly. Callie's eyes widened, and her mouth was agape as disbelief etched across her face.
Callie gasped in awe, realizing that Severin had eliminated a level five paragon who hailed from the Burkes with almost a minimum of effort. His previous quick victories against Hector and two others had already sparked doubts in Callie's mind about the vast disparity between their strength. Gerry's demise only rekindled those doubts, and she wondered if the gap between those individuals was truly that immense.
Gerry, as the Burkes young master and a level five paragon, was considered to be above average among the prodigies in the Starry Sky Battlespace. However, in regions like Southsky where the four major sects held less sway than in other parts of Bleurealm, individuals like Callie and Severin, who had reached level three paragons, were regarded as geniuses. By contrast, their strength appeared relatively feeble in Midland or Eastplain.
For regions beyond Southsky, only those who had attained level five paragon could become the core disciples of sacred lands or—in Eastplain—the young masters of certain families. The positions of divine heir required one to at least reach the strength of a level seven or level eight paragon.
Gerry's ability to become one of the young masters of the Burkes indicated a certain level of strength, but he fell with scarcely a struggle when facing Severin. Callie could not help but feel perplexed and astonished by Severin's ability.
When Severin noticed Callie's bewildered expression, he urged her, "Why are you still in a daze? Hurry up and leave!"
She snapped out of her reverie and nodded vigorously. She waved her ribbon and lashed it at the opponents around her, sending them flying some distance away. She then swiftly rejoined Severin, and the two vanished from the battlefield in the blink of an eye.
The Burkes were livid as they watched Severin and Callie fade into the distance in streaks of light. At the same time, they had a hint of relief as well, as Severin had spared them from what could be a certain death.
There was a silver lining when Severin abstained from attacking any further and allowed them a chance to escape. However, the shadow cast by Gerry's demise loomed large, and the coveted Lumigold remained out of their grasp.
To make matters worse, prodigies who were drawn by the unusual phenomena during the Lumigold's birth had soon arrived on the battlefield. The two level four paragons among the surviving Burke practitioners wore somber expressions and issued an order to their group. "Let's inform our divine heir about what happened here. Hopefully, he won't hold us responsible."
They knew that Gerry's death and the absence of the coveted items would invoke the punishment of their family. There was nothing else they could do. Their only hope at receiving less of a punishment rested on Wenzel—the Burkes' divine heir.
Shortly after Severin and Callie escaped the siege, dozens of rainbow streams suddenly appeared in the sky around the battlefield. The prodigies who were drawn by the phenomenon had finally arrived on the battlefield.
