Chapter 7
I saw Ryan again at the hospital entrance, just after I'd delivered the food to Grandma. When I spotted that familiar figure, my first instinct was to turn and leave.
But he had already spotted me and came straight after me. He looked as though he hadn't slept properly in months, worn down and weary.
"Jane, do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?" he growled, gripping my arm. "Marcus really knows how to keep someone hidden. He's tucked you away so well that I almost thought I'd never see you again."
I felt a headache coming on. "I think we've said everything there is to say."
"How can you say that?" he retorted. "Tell me, why are you with him? Why did you betray me? Haven't I been good enough to you?"
Hearing that, I almost laughed in disbelief.
His idea of being good to me was absurd. Nothing from our ten years together could possibly be described as good. And as for betrayal, I wasn't the one who fled from our wedding.
