"Okay, Mom. I got it."
Martha asked if Valeria was coming home too and whether work was keeping her busy.
But before Valeria could answer, Sebastian chimed in, "She's got stuff going on at work. I'll head back on my own."
After hanging up, Sebastian glanced at Valeria and asked, "Why are you driving so slow? Are you trying to set a record for slowest driver?"
"It's raining, and it's safer to go slow at night," Valeria replied as she flicked on the turn signal. The GPS said they were only a mile and a half away from their destination.
Then, they pulled into the underground garage.
When Valeria opened the door and stepped out, she spotted a tiny, filthy puppy huddled in the corner. It was drenched from the rain. She figured it was probably a stray from around here, hiding out from the rain.
Selena hopped out of the car, scooped the little puppy into her arms, and said, "Mommy, Mr. Grant, can we take this puppy home? It's so tiny."
