After I returned to San Francisco, I made sure to call Grandma twice a day to check on her. Even when our conversations were short, hearing her voice reassured me that she was recovering well.
“Why don’t we visit your grandma this weekend to check on her? I’d also like to meet her in person,” Liam suggested.
We were having breakfast at Margareth’s house. The dining table was already set when we arrived, the usual simple spread laid out neatly. Margareth had suggested that, whenever possible, we all eat together. Since Hannah and I would be leaving soon, she wanted to make the most of the time we had left as a family.
I considered Liam’s suggestion for a moment, pausing with my fork midair.
I shook my head. “No need. You just got back from work and you’re still adjusting. And I’ve been busy with my turnover. I want to finish it as soon as possible,” I said, declining gently.
