I soaked a towel in hot water, wrung it out carefully, and gently wiped Grandma’s cheeks and the backs of her hands.
My gaze drifted to the dinner sitting untouched on the bedside table.
I pulled the overbed table closer so Grandma could eat more comfortably, adjusting it until it was just the right height.
Noah had brought back three containers of chicken soup, still warm. He’d also picked up a couple of small takeout boxes of vegetables from a nearby place. The lids were slightly fogged from the heat inside. I set everything out neatly and handed him one of the containers.
Then I gave him a look—subtle but firm—silently telling him to step outside to eat.
He couldn’t take off his mask in front of Grandma.
He glanced at the food in my hand.
But he didn’t move.
“Wife, I want the chicken soup,” he said calmly.
I poured the soup into a bowl and held it out to him.
