Chapter 1685 Blood Is Thicker Than Water
“As you know, the answer I’m looking for isn’t a Bruja from Triora, but who’s behind this! So, who’s the brains behind that incident?” Olympias wondered.
Jules fell silent all of a sudden.
Olympias was quick to pick up the clues from Jules’s silence. “So, in the end, it was that Bruja from Triora who took the blame, right?” She sighed. “The true mastermind was never apprehended.”
Jules nodded helplessly and said, “Oly, I hope you understand that the White family, as per the Creed of the ancient martial arts world, is different from an ordinary family. Your grandpa needs to look at the big picture, and he doesn’t want to incite internal family rebellion.”
“It was also a critical time back then because our family was competing with other Creeds. A large-scale internal disorder within the family would put the entire family in jeopardy.”
“It was not your grandpa's fault that he didn’t get to the bottom of it. He didn’t dare pursue the investigation any further. Furthermore, he discovered the perpetrator later, but he did not reveal it. Rather, he sealed it in our family's sealed chamber forever. His purpose was to protect his family.”
“After that, your Grandpa never said anything about finding a successor, and the family was no longer in disarray. For the past two decades, he had kept the family at peace.”
“So, the sacrifice of our entire family was exchanged for the clan’s twenty-year-old peace?” Olympias grinned. “Then who will avenge my parents’ deaths?”
Jules was speechless. The clan had indeed let Olympias’s family down.
Jules sighed and said, “It’s the Machiavellian tactics. Oly, I hope you can understand. Your grandfather is now terminally ill. Before he died, his only wish was to see you. Please come back and visit him for the sake of his kindness shown to you many years ago. After all, blood is thicker than water.”
Olympias was silent. She finally looked Jules in the eyes solemnly and asked, “Then tell me, Uncle Jules. Is Uncle Ansel the one who framed my father?”
Jules was taken aback.
The muscles in Olympias’ face twitched slightly. “Even if you don't answer me, I can already guess it. Uncle Ansel is the oldest son, yet he is disliked by Grandpa due to his domineering personality. My dad, on the other hand, excelled in all areas, so when the family patriarch was about to be replaced, it was almost certain that my dad would be named patriarch. That’s why Ansel set up my father to fight for the position.”
“Oly, there is no exact answer to this matter,” Jules said gloomily. “In other words, only your grandpa knows the answer, and the truth is kept hidden in the sealed chamber, where only the patriarch has access to it. In this case, you can’t guess wildly without any evidence.”
“Who else could there be other than him? Speaking of which, Grandpa has nine children, all of whom are suspects, but Uncle Ansel has the highest suspicion.”
At this point, Olympias suddenly joked, “Then Uncle Jules, should I suspect you too?”
Jules's expression changed dramatically. Olympias burst into laughter on the spot. “Anyone could have harmed my father, but not you, Uncle Jules!”
Jules seemed to remember Olympias's playfulness from when she was a child at this point.
“You brat!” Jules scolded Olympias as he glared at her. “You haven’t changed since you were a child. Actually, you haven’t changed at all!”
“Okay, Oly! Let bygones be bygones. I’m hoping you’ll be able to understand your grandpa’s decision. He never wanted to harm anyone. Instead, he worked for the greater good. Furthermore, anyone would have been powerless to deal with the situation. Now that your grandpa is terminally ill, I hope you can go back and fulfill his last wish.”
At this point, Jules changed his topic again, “Everyone knows your Uncle Dillon has a heart of stone, and yet he returned some time ago as well. After all, death transcends everything…”
“Uncle Dillon has gone home?” Olympias was surprised.
A long time ago, Dillon, the Sword Warrior, was said to have severed all ties with the White family. He had been wandering around since then, never setting foot in the family home for more than ten years. Surprisingly, when the old man was about to die, he unexpectedly returned to see him one last time.
Just then, Olympias' phone rang. The caller was Jim.
Olympias said after answering the phone, “Jim called and said that our Boss knew you were here. He specifically requested for a feast to be prepared, and invited you over for a drink.”
Jules smiled and shook his hand. He said, “I already told you there is no need for that.”
Olympias replied, “Uncle Jules, you don’t look like a man who cares much about formality, so I will not insist any longer. Let's go.”
“Then… I will humbly accept the invitation.”
Jules and Olympias then proceeded to the banquet location. There, Jules met Olympias’ newfound family.
Tyr and others acted casually at the banquet, even in the presence of Master Jules of the White family. Jules responded by not putting on any airs at all. He got along pretty well with Tyr and others.
Jules was a very charismatic person from the start. This was also why, despite being the fourth son, he had a large number of supporters in the family. He had a group of close friends in the ancient martial arts world too. His charisma was precisely what made his older brother, Ansel, envious of him. Ansel was convinced that Jules would eventually triumph over him as the newest patriarch.
Tyr pulled Olympias aside after three rounds of drinking and inquired about her honest opinion..
“Boss, do you think I should go back?” Olympias also drank some wine. At this time, she was suffering from a dilemma.
“In fact, my situation back then was similar to yours.” Tyr chuckled. “Due to various incidents, I was also exiled from my family. In the end, I returned home and, one by one, reclaimed what was taken away from me.”
“Oly, the fact that you can’t make up your mind and have asked whether you should return or not means you already know the answer in your heart.”
Olympias closed her eyes and took a deep breath, “Is there an answer...in my heart?”
“Yes, you have. Not everyone in the family is bad, and you don’t hate everyone. If you choose to flee blindly, all of this will become a knot in your heart that you will never be able to untangle.”
“You are a King of Regal Palace. When confronted with challenges, everyone in the organization would rise to meet them rather than flee. You should ask yourself the ultimate question; do you really hate your grandfather? Do you also hate your Uncle Jules too?”
