Julian's eyes lit up.
He chuckled and gave Claire's cheek a light pinch. “Of course I’m going.”
Claire eyed him suspiciously. “Don’t get too happy too soon. Might be a setup waiting for us.”
Julian looked unbothered, flashing a calm smile. “Well, even if they're serving knives, I’ll still show up.”
Heading downstairs, a strange thought suddenly popped into Claire’s mind.
She felt like a fish that had just been swimming along with the current, and when she finally looked up, she thought, “Wow, this scenery’s nice.” But then it hit her—this wasn’t where she planned to end up, and she definitely hadn’t intended to linger here.
She was supposed to be a free spirit, swimming where she pleased.
Yet somehow, there’d been this invisible net around her the whole time.
