"Yeah." Perseus nodded. He didn't have time for pleasantries. Instead, he cut to the chase and asked, "What's going on down there? Was Uncle Randolph really hunting a dragon?"
"Oh? So, you knew?" Phanes was surprised. He hadn't entered the lake. So how did he know what had happened?
"I knew it!" Lavender cried out before he could respond, gnashing her teeth. "Perseus, are you seriously going to keep defending your family?"
"Why did he do it?" Perseus stared at Phanes as he questioned her. "Why didn't you stop him?"
"I couldn't. By the time I got down there, he'd already released the dragon and provoked it. If we hadn't killed it, we would've been the ones killed. What would you have done if you were in my shoes?"
As always, Phanes kept an icy expression—the kind that deterred anyone from getting too close to her.
