Upon the utterance of my words, he became still. His gaze was fixed upon me, conveying a sense of shock. The reality of the situation was clearly met with disbelief.
I observed the change in his golden eyes—dimmed and seemed to tremble, I realised the situation was irrevocably altered. The bond we shared, our connection as mates, appeared to be fractured. I feared there was no future for us, and perhaps, oblivious to the complexities of the world, he would ultimately reject me and continue his life as before.
After allowing him a moment to compose himself, it appeared that he was comprehending my words, as the initial surprise in his golden eyes began to diminish…
“It is not just a rumour about me, it is the buried truth of my life.” Having spoken once more, I experienced a sense of detachment as I uttered those words, as if I had simply swallowed the pain, allowing it to become a part of me.
“Those servants were right, I am barren, fruitless. I can not carry pups.” I mumbled
