Valentina was trembling in my arms, her veins still lit like molten silver, her breath uneven, her wolves too loud inside her body and I could feel each roar of them.
I held her tighter than I should, maybe — but I needed the reminder she was real. Alive and breathing.
Czer paced beneath my skin like a caged hurricane.
‘Mate is changing,’ he snarled. ‘She is becoming something we do not understand.’ He sounded scared, insecure of what's gonna happen.
“I know,” I muttered under my breath, pulling Valentina closer, my chin brushing the top of her head. “We’ll understand it together.”
But the lie was bitter. Because I didn’t understand anything, and every step forward made me feel like the ground was collapsing under us.
