"Leona, forget Soren. It doesn't matter what memories you two share. I believe the unhappy past will be replaced and filled with the happiness we can build together," Viktor said.
I had to admit. That fervent confession stirred something in me for a fleeting second.
Happiness… Who could refuse that word? I, too, had once been deeply drawn to such promises.
"Alright…" The syllable was on the tip of my tongue before my better judgment clamped down. "No."
Was there anyone who didn't yearn for happiness? But as I am now, do I truly have the right to claim it?
The dormant Hatty, the ever-advancing Soren, and my disappointing family… There were battles I had to face on my own, and no one could shoulder them in my place.
"Leona?" Viktor whispered, his voice laced with disbelief."Why? Does Soren mean that much to you?"
