John's POV
In the last few days, everyone at Kanam was unusually obedient. They paid more attention to their work after rumors circulated that Susan and Martha had been punished for insulting an important guest.
I munched on my bread, feeling rather gleeful. Last night, Susan finally gave me the suppressant that she had withheld for a month.
This incident must have traumatized her so much that she gave up the suppressant in her hands.
"Hey, John! We haven't seen Susan and Martha for days. Are the rumors from two days ago true? Did they offend a guest from the premium VIP room?"
My roommate, Manny Mansfield, inched closer to me.
I had an issue with Manny's hygiene habits. His awful stench could be quite suffocating at times.
Yet, he explained it as a way of protecting himself—whenever a guest tried to find trouble, they would inevitably give up when they saw him in that disheveled state.
"Who knows? They all say it's true," I said, brushing him off.
