John's POV
"You'd better start thinking of how to explain your tardiness to Susan later. How dare you keep her waiting? You're a dead man, John," Martha said with a gloating look on her face.
Looking at her smug expression, I couldn't help thinking that I wish she'd been there when I got beaten earlier. I also wondered if Sarah would have given her a few slaps, too, since Martha had helped Eamon pick on her yesterday.
Given Sarah's temperament, she definitely would've done it without hesitation. The mental image of Martha with a face swollen from Sarah's beating actually lifted my spirits.
"Weirdo," Martha muttered, rolling her eyes before gesturing toward the room behind her.
The hostesses at Kanam were ranked hierarchically. While the official policy was double-occupancy rooms, ordinary hostesses were crammed three or four to a room.
Someone of Susan's status not only occupied the largest and most spacious single room, but also enjoyed lavishly decorated furnishings.
