Charles took a sip of water and smiled faintly. "It's just a bottle of water. No need to thank me."
He stood up and looked at Marsha. "I need to head back in and check on things. If anything comes up, just give me a call."
Marsha turned to look at him, her eyes following his retreating figure toward the emergency room. Suddenly, she called out, "Dr. Jennings, thank you."
His presence had finally eased the fear gripping her heart.
She didn't have many close friends. Suzanne was the only one who truly counted. If something happened to her, Marsha honestly didn't know what she'd do.
Charles turned back and walked over to her. He gave her shoulder a light pat and said with a carefree grin, "You're close with my buddy. Don't get all polite with me."
He was already slipping back into his usual playful tone.
Marsha rolled her eyes and pretended to kick him, scolding playfully, "Get lost."
Charles really couldn't stay serious for more than a while.
