"It's not us. Chantelle accidentally sprained her ankle while she was hiking. Terence took her to the hospital, so Mary and I brought Janie back home first."
Knowing Meryl was confused, Lily explained things to her calmly.
Meryl looked surprised. Though she was still worried, she eased up a little. "I'm sorry. Come on in and have a seat…"
She spun on her heel and entered the house with Janet in her arms. She then instructed the maid to prepare some fruits and snacks.
After taking their seats in the living room, everyone gazed worriedly at Janet, who was shedding tears quietly with her head buried in Meryl's arms.
"Is Chantelle badly hurt?" Meryl finally had time to ask.
"It's not too serious—she just dislocated her bones. She'll be fine after a few days of rest," Lily explained. "Janie, don't cry. Your mommy is fine."
Meryl lowered her head to wipe off Janet's tears. "Silly girl, why are you crying? Didn't they say your mommy will be back soon?"
