"When you say a 'sliver of hope,' how slim of a chance are you really talking about?" Rhea had used up all her patience on Anna. "It's been six years—haven't you gotten used to life in a wheelchair yet? Can you just give it a rest already?"
Patrick stared at her with a cold, threatening look and spat out one word, "No."
"Can you stop being so selfish?" Anna yelled unhappily. "Just because your life sucks doesn't mean you get to drag me down too!"
"You've never cared about my life, so why should I care about yours?" A chilling smile appeared on Patrick's face. His eyes, locked on Rhea and Anna, were bloodshot.
Anna held his gaze for a few seconds, but it made her skin crawl. She quickly turned away and said to Rhea, "I'm heading out now. I'll leave the rest to you. Maybe you should find a therapist for Patrick. He's clearly not right in the head."
Rhea waved her off, signaling her to go.
Outside the hospital ward, the hallway was completely empty of people.
