Chapter 1650 Let's Talk About It

Shane's brows furrowed, clearly unwilling to agree to this condition. Margot continued, "Grandpa Shane, Benjamin is an independent individual. He's not your tool. He has his own thoughts, and neither of us has the right to interfere with his decisions." Shane suddenly chuckled. "You're really arrogant, girl. I'm curious to witness how you'll react when you lose and are utterly heartbroken." With that, he turned and walked away. Margot watched his departing figure with a faint smile. How could she possibly lose? He had given his life to her once. In her eyes, Shane had lost from the very start. Margot glanced in their direction again before she turned to leave. She wouldn't interfere. She had faith in him, after all. … The construction team was working day and night, and the burnt structure had already been rebuilt. Dylan, Kevan, and David sat on a vacant spot with beers in hand. Each of them wore a troubled look. Margot walked over and looked at them. "You guys seem to have something on your minds." When they saw her, the drunk Kevan stood up suddenly. "What brings you here, Ms. Zimmerman?" Margot sat down with them and opened a can of beer. "I just came for a stroll. You don't need to be nervous." Kevan scratched his head nervously and sat back down. Dylan appeared calm. "You must have encountered some troubles." Margot denied, "No." Dylan furrowed his brows. "Then why did you come here? Don't you trust us? Why would you hire us if you don't trust us?" She had even forced them into signing an unfair contract! Margot glanced at him. "You seem quite unhappy with me." Dylan pursed his lips and said nothing. David immediately chimed in, "You've got it wrong, Ms. Zimmerman. He's just heartbroken after being dumped." Dylan grabbed an empty beer bottle and threw it at David. "You're the one who's heartbroken!" David chuckled. "Okay, okay. You're right." Dylan fell silent. Their banter amused Margot. She suddenly asked, "Do you guys have dreams?" Dylan scoffed. "What are dreams? Are they enough to earn me a living?" Margot turned to him. "But all of you were living hand to mouth before this. Weren't you afraid of being arrested?" Dylan lowered his gaze, and his expression hardened. "If they arrest us, so be it. I've lived long enough." Margot paused. There seemed to be more to the story. David and Kevan exchanged a glance and fell silent. Margot picked up her beer bottle. "Come on, let's talk about it. Tell me about your troubles. I might not be able to help you, but at least I can have some leverage against you." Dylan looked at her silently. He picked up a bottle of beer and took a sip. "My parents died when I was very young. Different people took me in over the years. But all of them died in the end." Margot was taken aback. What Dylan just said sounded like an incredibly tragic. Anger flashed across Dylan's eyes. "They were a group of ruthless criminals who were about to be caught by the police. They would be sentenced to death if they were caught. They wanted to make a fortune before they died, so ..." He closed his eyes in pain. Margot silently clinked her beer bottle against his and asked, "In that case, you should be even more vengeful. Why did you choose this path?"
