Chapter 128
Scarlett's POV
The first thing I felt was the pounding in my skull—a low, steady throb that made me groan and bury my face in the pillow. My temples ached, and my throat was dry. I could still taste the alcohol I had drunk last night lingering on my tongue. Damn, Kathleen hadn't let me leave until I'd finished every drink, and even Lucien had needed to intervene.
Now, because of it, he was even more drunk—though even when he didn't pass out and was still on his feet, trying to appear sober, his expression had become unfocused and sluggish.
Damn, alcohol is nothing but trouble.
I lifted a hand to massage my temple, hissing softly when sunlight slipping through the curtains struck my eyes. "Ugh…"
My voice came out hoarse and my lips felt painfully dry.
Before I could move, an arm caught me around the waist and pulled me against a rough, firm chest. A familiar chest, with a familiar warmth. I felt a low hum vibrating against my neck, sending shivers down my spine.
