Chapter 1513 Arianne Feels Guilty

Mark rubbed his glabella to stop the headache he had. “Can you please calm down? I have not asked my men to retreat. Alejandro and I have arranged for a new batch of people to look for her, since Seaton has long but had me running around his fingertips. Do you honestly think that I haven’t already thought of everything that you have? Time is of the essence now; I’m already annoyed to no end, so please stop making it even worse. None of this would’ve happened if Aery had not caused trouble. Also, how is she young and foolish? Is she still a child? It’s no wonder that Aery turned out to be how she is today when she’s been pampered by you. It’s a good thing that Arianne was not raised by you!” When he was done, Mark walked upstairs and ordered the guards not to let Helen leave the house. Things would only become even more serious if Helen did anything foolish. They only had 10 hours left before sunrise, and these 10 hours were the most critical. Mark changed into a fresh set of clothes before he drove out. It was most definitely going to be a very busy night for them. Before he left, he took Arianne’s cell phone with him. Seaton had constantly been contacting Arianne through her phone; he needed to be sure that Seaton would not contact Arianne while he was away. Arianne was in a complete mess at that moment, so she probably would not be able to withstand the pressure and might do something foolish as well. After coaxing Smore to sleep, Arianne returned to her room to lie down, unable to fall asleep no matter how much she tried, as Aery’s terrified face would appear in her mind whenever she closed her eyes. Why was she being blamed when she had nothing to do with it? She hated the feeling of being blamed for something she did not do. Suddenly, the bedroom door creaked open. Mary softly whispered. “Arianne, are you asleep?” Arianne replied. “No, I can’t sleep.” Mary sighed as she walked towards her and sat by her bedside. “I understand that you’re in a bad mood and would definitely have a hard time trying to sleep. Sir’s not at home as well, so let me accompany you.” Arianne sat up and placed a pillow behind her back. “Mary, do you think that I’m at fault here?” Mary shook her head. “How could you be at fault? Aery had only called you after arriving at the capital, and you had no obligation to meddle in her affairs. We all know what her intentions were. If it were me, I wouldn’t let her into the house either. She’s only pretending to be well-behaved on the surface, but she is no different from who she was in the past. It’s hard for a leopard to change its spots. Didn’t you already inform Helen the moment you found out that Aery was back? Helen did not ask for you to keep her safe either, did she? She could blame Aery or even Seaton, but she most definitely cannot blame you.” Arianne lowered her eyes, feeling down. “But… Why do I still feel guilty? I shouldn’t be so narrow-minded when a human’s life is at stake. None of this would probably have happened if I had brought Aery back and waited for Helen to take her away. However, now that things have developed to this stage, Helen would not think the same way as all of you do. This may not have had anything to do with me, but Helen disagrees. You’ve heard it yourself—Helen will definitely hold a grudge against me forever if Aery dies. Mary grabbed onto her hands and consoled her. “You shouldn’t think that way. So what if she hates you? The two of you have been estranged for so long now and you won’t be living the rest of your life with her either. She was just downstairs running amok, and sir even argued with her for a moment. Sir supports you all the way, so you don’t have to think about anything else. Look at you; how could you look so frail? Hurry up and get some rest. There shouldn’t be anything that’s preventing you from resting. Aery’s life is all up to fate now. Sir and Alejandro have done their best. He has even personally gone to look for Aery himself. He did bring some men with him for support, so you should rest easy.”
